Can anyone vouch for Foundry's Old West line?

Ahoy hoy,

I've been on the hunt for civilians for quite some time now, and I'm really rather fond of Foundry's range of Old Westies. I've heard they can be expensive, but there's an offer on the site for sixty models (few duplicates, if any) for £95 sans postage, which sounds pretty sweet to me. Here's the set in question:

They're listed as 28mm, and I can probably deal with 'slimness' (that may even nicely offset the comparative stockiness of my Imperial Guard), but I can't abide them being stupidly tall or short. A hundred notes for sixty figures is a bit of a gamble, so if anyone out there can advise/warn me on these minis, that would be superb.

Oh, and I don't mind the thin fixed bases; a bit of sawing and gluing to GW filled ones isn't a problem. I also expect some of the guns to look a bit naff, but I'm after the totally unarmed ones more than anything, and I've got enough spare weapons to make any necessary swaps.

If you want these to scale alongside Imperial Guard models, there is absolutely no chance in hell that they will fit.

Scale is true-scale and not heroic scale, so while the overall height may be similar, they won't be "hulked out" like GW models with oversized hands, feet, heads and weapons. You will absolutely not be able to use GW weapons on them without it looking ridiculous.

Remember, an Imperial Guardsmen is taller, and has beefier muscles than a space marine. They are some of the worst proportioned models in the entire GW range.

Foundry's casting quality is also abysmal, and their sculpts are a good 20 years behind the top of the market. I would avoid them at all costs.

Here is a well-known armor modeller's site. He does some brilliant work and offers a few civilian figures in 1/35 for diorama purposes. I've also included a size comparison of a decently proportioned 1/35 figure to a 40k figure. Even though they truly should not be interchangeable, they are because of the cartoonish proportions of the 40k universe.

http://migproductions-usa.com/resin-kits-figures/figures/figures-1-35.html

There are many resin companies who offer civilians in 1/35 for use in armor dios. I would stray away from many of them (verlinden primarily) , however, because they will be larger than most 40k figures. These MIG Production ones will be fine, though, I think. I imagine you would want the civilians to look fairly puny in comparison to the military figures to add that sense of imperial might to your scenes.

OK, cheers guise. I actually immediately regretted typing that I'd be sorted for weapon swaps, as I already figured the hand and limb scale would be way off.
And thanks Pete, those models do look rather neat indeed.
