Nice tut.

My question is how durable is the plaster once it's out of the mold? I seemed to break apart fairly easy. My concern is that once it's on a base it will break up during game play.

Gypsum plaster has varying degrees of strength. For example, the plaster used by dentists(and most who do plaster terrain) has a very high tensile strength(like 5k psi). Plaster of Paris on the other hand has an insanely low strength, and will break apart quite easily.

So if you use the good stuff they should be quite durable, provided you aren't scuffing them up or dropping them.

In all fairness PoP is very fragile, but the previous comment is correct, there are different types. I generally use this and the cast my own resin bases, so the durability is not an issue.

I have done this myself with dental plaster and the pieces are quite strong, my issue though if what to glue it with. i pinned some assault marines with pinning wire and superglue and the glue "plug" just seems to pull out fairly easily.
Any suggestions?

The best way to attach a model to a scenic base is not by just gluing the foot to the base, but drilling a hole for a pin to go up from the bottom of the base into the model. It will hold regardless of the material used for the base.
