Just wondering, with the newcrons fluff in mind let's imagine the following scenario (being able or not, is not the question): Necrons have taken over all the galaxy; killed (or joined ?????) every foe they have found; how would necron society be like?

-Would they be a living empire with prospering technology/culture/... ?
-Same as above but trying to make the best of their metal body, and trying to find a way to enchance what is left of their soul?
-Same as first but trying to get back to a flesh-made-body?
-Would they go back to sleep (for X or Y reason)?
-Wouldn't they be able to live in a community anymore and would they stall until they "rot" away (like losing more and more of their soul and as such being nothing more then machines repeating the same task for ever...)

Sub-question: Do you believe, if the opportunity arises, that necrons could "join" or "let join" other races? As ofcourse both race agree to live side by side, like tau for example?
-Would it be as a lawful-good act?

There's definitely no egalitarianism amongst the Necrons. They're rigidly caste-based, and all of their artists, merchants, commoners, philosophers and basically anyone who wasn't a noble is now a near-mindless automaton. They don't really have the ability to found a society outside of the tomb any more.

If you happened to live near one that didn't exterminate you? You get to be slaves, probably, and pay tribute to them, but that's it. However, this would leave the Necrons with a bunch of mortal nobles, and hosts of mindless, immortal metal soldiers. Technically, they are still in the book; there's a nice picture of a couple a pariahs in the new codex, which was clearly lifted from its predecessor.
However, there are no rules for them, sadly. I guess it makes sense; it was a bit odd that the necrons would deploy an experimental prototype of their next generation of bodies as frontline troops. True, it had the 0-1 limit, but still...
