The Kroseth Dynasty, my Necron Army Blog.

>--------------------<
The planet Nephrekh is perhaps the last surviving crownworld of the once-mighty Kroseth Dynasty. Located in the galaxy’s tumultuous Eastern Fringe, most worlds of the Kroseth were ravaged during the hellish battles fought against Hive Fleet Kraken. That Nephrekh itself was spared such a fate is a boon to no one save the soulless metallic legions that shelter within the planet’s bosom.

Nephrekh is a lightless world, the lone satellite of a dying star. Its surface has been scourged by thousands of meteor and asteroid impacts, the sundered remnants of two sibling planets within the system that collided nearly a million years ago. These elements, so hostile to life, are the same aspects that make Nephrekh thrive as a Tomb World. Within the lifeless planet’s cavernous interior hum tremendous engines of alchemical engineering, each one powering millions of stasis crypts. Flights of Doom Scythes flash between the tumbling asteroids that ring the star system’s boundary, forming a bastion against invasion that never comes. Indeed, neither the Imperium of Man nor the myriad of Xenos forces that occupy the Eastern Fringe have any particular interest in warring over such a bleak and uninhabitable star. It is thanks to their world’s relative obscurity that the lords of Nephrekh have been given license to pursue their twisted and perverse ends...
>--------------------<

Hello and welcome to my Necron army blog. I've always had an interest in Necrons, and played them back in Second Edition (for those keeping score, that was back when the whole army had a whopping five units to its credit ). With the new army book on the horizon last year, it seemed like a prime chance to pick up an army that was different from the Dark Eldar that I started Fifth Edition 40k with, or the Imperial Guard which had become my mainstay. With that in mind, I sold off my old Chaos Dwarf army (as you can see, I've always been a fan of playing the weird stuff) and put down a healthy chunk of change on a Necron buy-in.

Oo, spendy.

My old, Second Edition Necrons were painted Terminator style, with a lot of shiny steel and glowing red eyes. I still like the scheme, but I wanted to do something different with these new Necrons. Originally I had it in mind to make my army look ancient and ill-kept, robotic warriors with patina clinging to their forms. I did a couple of test figures, and while the scheme came out pretty well, it wasn't overly distinct at table distance. While goofing around with paint, I came up with another scheme, almost the complete opposite, that was a brighter ceramic white with green undertones. I haven't yet decided on which scheme to use, so I ask you, my fellow Dakka members, to weigh in with your opinions (ignore the gun schemes, I'm going to end up doing a mash-up of both techniques in the end).

WIth green rods blazing...

From the back

He is Iron Man

The Great White Hope

Both schemes have merit, as far as I'm concerned. The big advantage of the metallic scheme is that it's simpler to paint and the results are more consistent. The white is more distinct, I think, and certainly more unique. For anyone that follows my Imperial Guard project log, you know that I like DIY projects. Fortunately (or maybe unfortunately), I actually like the vast majority of the Necron model range, so I'm not going to be doing as much DIY stuff this time around. However, I started this collection and project before the new Triarch Stalkers or Wraiths had been released, and I'm not a huge fan of either kit, so I plan on building both myself. Though it's a bit of a ways off, here's a picture of my scratch-built Triarch Stalker.

I think it would be hard to stalk things in a giant spider tank, but whatever...

Like a segway from hell

The spidery bits are from the Robogear Spider kit, while the majority of the other pieces come from the Necron Annihilation Barge kit.

So there you have it, the inaugural post in my project log for the Kroseth Dynasty. If you've made it this far in the post, please ring in with your opinion on which color scheme that you'd prefer to see for the army. Thanks for reading!
