If you make it look basic orky, then yes knock yourself out.

Ork lore and fluff has them lootin' an' convertin' everything they can get your hands on.

They still get used as trukks and no one can say otherwise because they are still trukks.

If every model in your army is current but the old trukks, it gives a bad impression of advantage seeking, kind of like using the old Ghaz model that's the same size as an ork boy, or the old Eldar avatar that's on a similar scale..


Mine became buggies, but i occasionally dust off my old RT/2nd ED orks and run them as trukks again, for nostalgia games. I've never had anyone complain when i'm running a whole ancient-model army.

True enough They can also navigate holes smaller than a trukk could navigate, or be completely hidden by scenery more easily, but the pro/con argument on them has been done to death many many times since then new trukks dropped.

I've run into some VERY uptight people on the issue, but then some people take this game a tad too seriously.

I've played games against a guy using old Transformers toys as trukks and BW's before It doesn't bother me all that much, but some folk do get bent out of shape about it, and they do have a point LOS-wise.


Trying to visualize 6 meganobz riding one of the old trukks into battle is always good for a chuckle though..

I dont really care what someone uses as long as it isnt confusing and roughly the correct size. I dont want someone saying well heres my BW rush list and its all old school trukks, then I would have a problem with it. So yea, people need to chillax a bit about this game.

Here is what is most funny. The new trukk bed only has 3/8" of an inch more length and 1/8" more width of actual flat bed space than the old one. So it cant actually hold even one more model than the old one. The only thing that the new trukk has over the old one is height and length, and on the length thats pretty much just the engine. Height is a bit of an issue because the new one is twice as tall.

Orks were my first army. I played them a long time (maybe late 90s?). I think a lot of newer 40k players don't know that there was a huge block of time that ork players had no "offical" vehicles. (except maybe bikers if you wanna call them vehicles). The two vehicles ork players had were from the specialist game GorkaMorka- those small trukks and the STILL current traks. I think the 2 styles of buggy were actually the only official ork vehicle. GW had the vehicles in the codex but no offical vehicle models. So, ork players had to build their own vehicles. I know I still have a few ork vehicles made with dollar store plastic tank parts and scraps from other Armies. To make a guntrukk, I put a zappgun in the bed of a trukk.

I have seven old style trukks that I still play with. I play the speed freek style: all vehicles, no footsloggers. So theres no problem with grots blocking los. Trukks are so weak, someone with st 4 can punch one and destroy it. I was lucky to get 2 turns out of a trukk, before it blew up and careened somewhere.

I think its bad policy to start treating models like codices and rule books and start saying you can't play a model cause a new one came out. That old trukk model was an offical GW model for orks. It should be allowed.

It is an official GW Trukk model and you are using it as a Trukk. There is absolutly no leway on rules argumentation for it not being legal.

The size difference question is more of a 'should you' than a 'can you' really.

By the same token i could field units of old DE grotesques as Grotesques, despite the radical difference in size. They were sold to me as grotesques, so legally they are grotesques (even though Wracks are now what Grotesques used to be, really). It would be legal to field them, but it would sure get me some funny and disapproving looks, even if the pros and cons balanced out

I would play someone who did this, and not have an issue with it, but i could see why someone else wouldn't be cool with it.

The Problem is, that some people are actually collecting old models off ebay, and then mix new and old trukks or rhinos to hide more valuable cargo, like nobz or sternguard.

I'm not saying that you shouldn't be allowed to field your old models. We have a player who bought the entire IG artillery off forgeworld before they were made by GW. You know, like basilisks without a vehicle underneath? I have absolutely no issue with that.
