Necron court

Im trying to come up with a good court, and cant decide what to do.

I will have 32 necron warriors to use. All depending on the points we are using. Not saying that i will use all 32. I will just have that many at my disposal (unless getting the extra box of warriors is a waist of money. I will getting a battleforce box for sure. So thats 20 right there)

5 immortals

2 maybe 3 annihilation barges

1 ghost ark transport

I understand wraiths are good. Along with the crypt spiders with scarab swarms. Any suggestions?

and well im stumped at this point.

I have noticed a lot of people use the overlord on a barge. Not what im looking to do, unless you all can convince me other wise. I am not sure what the sweeping attacks really does.

And i have noticed a lot of people take a few cryptechs of destruction. With the 32" 8str ap2 staff and solar flare ( how do these work? anti Vehicles is my guess)

And lords with Resurrection orbs.

The overlord on Command Barge is one of the best units at your disposal; armed with a warscythe he can cruise over units or vehicles and get 'free' attacks against them during his movement phase. AV 13 on the front and sides means it's very tough to take down, improved by his ability to trade a wound for a damage result and keep the barge moving. It's open topped, which allows him to disembark and assault in the same round, potentially allowing him to sweep one squad and assault another in the same turn; not that you want to disembark him...

The crypteks of destruction with solar pulse add long range high strength shooting to a squad, but also invoke a turn of night fighting once a game to cripple your opponent's shooting. For 55 points they're kind of great.

Lords with orbs are just an insurance policy designed to increase the survivability of a troop squad by 16%; but also act as a nice way to give the squad a CC bump by adding a warscythe or mindshackle scarabs or both.

So can some one explain to me how exactly you use a catacomb command barge? How exactly does the sweeping attacks work?

So do you move over a target during the movement phase and get to attack with the weapon he is equipped with? And how many attacks does he get? And i noticed it said he can do it three times per turn. Can you do it 3 times to the same units each turn? Or do you have to move between say 2 near by squads? Its just a confusing unit for me to understand

You move the barge over a unit and decide you are going to sweep it. By sweep imagine your lord sticking his weapon just to the right and down so the weapon hits what ever he is passing over. (only one unit can be hit even if you pass over more than one)

When you sweep this unit you are allowed 3 attacks against it with whatever weapon your lord is using (warscythe is recommended). If the weapon has special rules that would apply you are allowed to apply them. For example you get 2D6 armor pen against vehicles with a war scythe...but Trayzns Empathic obliterator wont work (as it says it has to be a CC attack). If you are sweeping infantry or other non vehicles and roll a 6 to hit you decide who you hit instead of your opponent. If you are sweeping a vehicle you hit its rear armor...this is crucial as rear armor is usually MUCH weaker than any other facing...combine that w your 2D6 and Str 7 from the scythe and there isnt much you cant kill. Oh and you can move flat out (gaining a 3+ cover save) and still do this...no other army in the game can do something like this...and for a mere 80 points no less...

The barge is open topped meaning you can assault out of it was well...though I usually dont.

Seriously, CCBs are effing awesome for 80 points you get a nasty nasty vehicle killer that is EXTREMELY difficult to stop.

The rule says it can do up to 3 sweeping attacks per turn. What does this mean? (can i use the first sweeping attack. Than move 1" and get a second, and than repeat to get a third?) The rule does not say how far sweeping attacks is. Or is sweeping attacks just a after affect of you moving over enemies? I don't understand if it is its own independent move.

So lets say we are playing a game. A skimmer can move 24". So i move the 24", and end up 6" away from a enemy unit. Do i than specify that i am using sweeping attacks and move the 6" over the enemy unit? ( is it a independent move? If so does it have like a 6" range or what?)

Or is it more like say a enemy unit is 24" away. And i move the 24" to land on top of the enemy. And only because i moved on top of the unit with my regular movement. It than uses sweeping attacks. ( or is it a secondary effect of just landing on top of a enemy unit?)

Elmo, do you have the codex? It's pretty clear.

To answer your question though, the sweep attacks occur when you move over a unit in the movement phase. You don't need to stop on the unit you are sweep attacking and you can change direction etc normally. You can also move as far as permitted (i.e. max of 24", but you can move 3" if you want and still sweep attack). All that changes is what you roll to hit - so flat out is 4+ to hit, combat 3+ to hit.

I always declare the unit I am sweep attacking before I move the CCB, and always use three attacks (not sure why anyone would use less tbh). All attacks have to be against the same unit. If you roll a 6, you can pick the model that the attack works against for that hit.

hth

Pretty much I move the CCB, tell my opponent that I am making a sweep attack over said unit from the CCB and roll my dice. Didn't know about that on 6's I can choose who takes the hits, that is nice.
The line "and special abilities from his close combat weapon. (line 6 paragraph 2)" makes me wish it did work with Empathic Obliterator, though I believe we've rules it that the effect only goes off when he is on foot.

Curse you "in close combat" wording! (I guess it is meant for the 2D6 armor pen from warscythe against rear armor, but does any other weapon get a bonus the sweep attack can use?)
