The Repair functions are significantly better, in the Fluff, than in the gameplay. Necrons repair on the spot, for all the damage taken. They basically win by a battle of attrition. Some Specific Overlords have a lot going for them, like Imotekh and Trazyn. Well, one of them can travel through time and murder, say, your great-grandfather to prevent you from ever having been born so that you totally cannot mess with his plans once he returns to the current space-time continuum... but this has all sorts of side-effects he doesn't want to deal with so he normally doesn't do this sort of thing. The general gist is that they allow themselves to get hit, and rely on their repair systems to fix them up, while landing powerful counter-blows while their opponent can't block.

Imotekh is notable for besting Helbrecht, one of the most capable swordsmen in the entire Imperium, in melee combat, not through superior skill or swiftness, but by simply tanking everything Helbrecht threw at him.
