New to Da Warhammer: Orks Player

I have posted on here before about having a grey knight army. However I found I just did not like the models nor painting them. However I really enjoyed painting and assembleming the Orks I got in my Black Reach box.
So I decided to go with Orks. However I have not played on game in 5th let alone 6th edition.
So I was wondering, What would be the best route to learn the game and Ork?
My LGS is having a escalation league soon and I thought about joining that. However, from my experience with the Warmahordes e-league, I don't want to go into it blind.
Therefore I thought about coming on here and asking how should I approach this?
I have all the orks in the Black Reach box and their HQ, but that is it.
-Fae

Hi and welcome to the hobby

First off I wouldn't recommend any sort of tournament play until you are more familiar with the rules. (particularly as you haven't mentioned owning a codex)
So purchase the codex at the very least and the rulebook if you can afford it
Best thing to do is find a few like minded individuals (maybe friends who are starting the game or people at your FLGS) and have a few smaller games with them to teach you the rules

Use these games to work out how you would like to play your orks...you can be super competitive, in which case there are plenty of army lists on the internet. Or you could prefer something a bit more exciting like a speed freaks fluffy list.
This way you can steadily build an army you enjoy playing and which is suited to your playing style.

Explosivo111

New to Da Warhammer: Orks Player

Well I have a codex and now, thanks to a gift, I have two sets of battle box sets of Orks.
I plan on getting the rule book and getting some practice rounds in before the league.

Now I play Warmahordes and I play Skorne. I usually like to have a few ranged units that provide cover for my melee while they move forward. Then I have a few speed units to haze the other army. But mostly I like to have big guys behind some units . That way I have big damage dealers and smaller "cannon fodder" in front.

Lootas are my favourite.
For your speedy units you can use bikers or big trukks full of boys depending on how much you fancy painting and what takes your fancy aesthetically (with the too box sets the trukks seem the easier choice)
For the smaller cannon fodder you can utilise shoota boyz and for big damage dealers use nobz or MANZ

The great thing about orks is you can play them many different ways. So keep playing and soon you'll have an army you really enjoy using.

Explosivo111

Re:New to Da Warhammer: Orks Player

The theme I came up with is the Blood Daizies. A Ork warband that uses bright, sometimes pastel, colors to announce their presence on the battle field. Their symbol will be a 8 petaled daisy with a blood drop from the center.

Blood Daizes
6: Ork DeffKopta
40: Ork Boyz
10: Ork Nobz
2: Ork Warbosses

My next question is, is there a good way to learn the rules, like in AoBR? Or Can we just run AoBR with 6th rules?

Also I have seen other Orks from AoBR on sale on Ebay for like 17 bucks. Now is this a good buy?

Thanks,
-Fae
