Star Trek skirmish gaming. Input requested.

I'm working on digging around the webs for some miniatures for Star Trek, and would like input into where to look, and secondly, I would like to know if there is a miniature version for 25-28mm of the Enterprise bridge/ Ship areas.

So far, I've downloaded some rules sets from the game Galacta 3, Galacta 25, and the Starfleet Battles Cadets Guidebook, as well as the Starfleet Officers Manual, for inspiration/ kitbashing.
Will be tracking down some of those old Federation commander ships, and the games from the Starfleet battles line, and inject a little Prime Directive in there for good love. Alngo with some of the Stars Without Numbers stuff, and some other additional ingredieants from Star trek lore, I'd like to homebrew some stuff and try it out for size.

Secondly, I'm in touch with the owner of Heritage minis for some of the Old Star Trek miniatures, as well as Matakishi's Tea House for those Starship Crew's. Are there other companies that have similer, or additional companies miniatures that I can put in there that will fit the 25-28mm range?

Right now, I'm just wanting to do TOS stuff. Not going to delve too deep in the pool, just yet.

Additionally, I would like to know if there are sets of tabletop scenery that would do for a starships hallways and rooms based on the Star Trek setting. ( Space Hulk would be ok, but theres too much skully-skull-skulls in there for what I want to put together for the ship fights. ( Might work for Klingons, or abandon ships, or delrelects, but not the fed ships.)

Basic idea, I would like to try-

Setting up a skirmish level"Gang" or "Away Team", and adding it in along in the ships to go to different planets, using several other Scifi games material for infusing the game with stuff to do. Skills will be at first, pretty basic, with a sceleton to put the meat of the rest of the "TOS" era stuff in for the game to begin, then I go Trekkie and add in more and more as the thing grows.

I saw what Mongoose and WOTC/ Heroclix did, and for personal reasons, I ignore them all like the plague. So old school Starfleet battles it is, so ship captains have a baseline familier set to work with, without having to make a whole new game up.

The only new thing I want to add in there is to build on the skirmish level away team stuff.

Minions, gear, and rewards are pending, based on the work.

Hope you can help, so far what I have is pretty cool.

As a matter of fact, I might have to draw this up for a project writeup. hmmm....

Not sure about if this has exactly what you are looking for but I would check out star-ranger.com, its a site for starships miniatures and games, they might have more info on stuff of this kind. I would also check out shapeways, they are a 3d printing company that may have stuff similar to what you want, I know that I have seen some 28mm stuff there before and on star-ranger so it worth a shot. hope this helps.

-Fire-

If you want scenery that fits in with TOS sort of feel, I highly recommend fish tank scenery. The vivid colors and over-the-top look to most artificial aquarium plants would look great next to some old school Star Trek minis. The overly weird, plastic-y look to some aquarium scenery would also capture that campy feel of the classic Trek.

And on a personal note, I would definitely play a Trek game if it included later stuff, but only if I could play a Borg force and assimilate my opponent's models and then use them. (Ala Lt. Hawk in First Contact) Good luck with your project, though.

Picking up some PDF's for some more space stuff. Along with that, found a good blog over at "Addicted to Pewter", and the Teahouse on the figures.

My Next question is to ask about who took over the Mega Minis star trek-like guys, and are they still being made?

Will probibly go with a modified "Gang Roster" for the away teams, then have different adventures that they can do, based on the MMO line of stuff they have there.

I might have picked a pretty big operation to start, so I might just hold fast, scale down the vision to a bridge crew, and some redshirts, along with a couple of batches of the standard fare that I have found through third, fourth, and fifth companies, that are dead on for what I need.

I'm wholeheartedly suprised that this hasn't been done before by one of the er.... larger companies.

Wizkids isn't my first choice for anything, anymore. Good for laughs, but thier scale is craptastic.

As to the borg question, I'll bounce that your way. Can you please dig around on your end, and I'll look around on mine and post what I find as well.

Not sure how I say it without saying it, but theres a good range of 25mm TOS minis out there, and they are available for a great price. My only hmm, is to which style of Klingons, and Romulans I want to use

My biggest issue is that I'm pigeon holeing my self into a specific setting, so its opening up the flood gates for the great bunches of scifi minis out there that are avaliable, and I'm missing the boat with Serenity, Star Gate, and a few of the other ones. Like was posted though, be carefule when you ask about Star Trek, there is almost too much info to get out there on it.

The "Research is interesting, and the shows are available, so thats always a good thing.... here.

Only major faction I'm missing so far, is the Borg.

On a further topic, is it just me, or is there a flood of "Old School" gaming emerging that wasn't there before?

Thanks all for the info so far.

But you indeed have a point about the characters being a little "flat" in terms of equipment. One solution to that is to create variations in terms of skills and statistics.

Like Spock is a tough cookie that is darn strong with a very hearty physical constitution. The Vulcan gets shot, poisoned, beaten up, etc. etc. and keeps asking for more. Kirk is pretty grim for a human, but sees himself through more with tenacity, rabbit punches, and drop kicks than by simply being tough or strong. For instance, he often manages to best opponents with superior size, strength, etc. by fighting well and cleverly. McCoy on the other hand, while he is serviceable in a fight, tends to participate less and get knocked out early, but he's on hand for some healing or some buffs with his trusty hypo spray and he isn't shy about his phaser. Spock is a crack shot, much like Kirk, but he cleaves very strongly to the prime directive and keeps his phaser stowed even when primitives are messing him up good.

Re:Star Trek skirmish gaming. Input requested.

I'm interested because of going back and digging up some old "FASA" stuff on the webs that I thought might make a good skirmish/ campaign game.

There are a few different ranges out there, as well, so your not going to struggle too much with the ones you want to use. You could even get yourself the estrigin enhanced "Voyager" crew, with the hotty six of nine, to go with.

ME? I'm going to try and hold fast with TOS for awhile, until I get the stuff I need and sort it out in the flesh. ( One thing we have is a belly full of ideas for it.)

Picard would be a neat try, but he seems a little too soft for what I have in mind.

Besides that, I haven't seen any good out and out minis games for Star Trek, and even the figures were, (until I found them), missing. Rest assured, though- the stuff is available.

As to it not being a good game, I think that if you'd have a good baseline guy with a team of sidekicks, give them some decent skills and weapons, and give them a few missions, and that it would be a very fun time, and you could even so far as to go back, pick up SFB, or Fleet Commander, and go play some campaign games.

I'd go so far as to say that you could do quite alot with it, if you have as large a selection of scenery, miniatures, and ideas as I have.

Not to mention , adding in the battle board, the planets, and ships, and astroids, mines, stations, and whatever you want to.

You could do some really cool "Time travel", with a few dinos in there, help out some "Lost colonists", go to a back world where theres a few ancients living there, being messed with by so and so aliens, not to mention the ships.

Ship combat to me would go along the lines of SFB. The game is solid, and the stuffs all avalable.

You could even go use some of those models out there. Not like theres a shortage.

You need to have yourself a good bridge, but other then that, theres a bunch of stuff out there that you could do with TOS.

How many ships they had out there again? Not including all of the other stuff like the marines, or the away teams, or boarding parties, or derelect space ships, or alien worlds, or.....

My idea is going to be a basic 20-30 man crew, plenty of red shirts, and the base red blue, yellow shirts. Then the Victory Forge technicians, then the aliens, which need a few for crews and troops, then some alien stuff, via the fishbowl plants and caves and rocks and ruins.

Star Mogual is my next bet. I'll be swooping in on that one later on.

As for the stuff available in Prime Directive, theres a heck of a bunch of extra stuff that you can do as well. If you had a large enough group, you could even go so far as to give each on a race, make up your own aliens, or even add in your own stuff for a group campaign, via sectors in space.

Thats where the ship stuff comes in as well.

Not only do you have a great selection of ships, you can go on and make yourself some armadas, and have some large scale ship actions, via Star Fleet Battles, or the thrice cursed mongoose, or even Heroclixs, if you so chose.

Me? I want to go old school on that one if only because I haven't played SFB in over 15 or so years. Last I remember, the ship was almost a character in itself. Add in two or three? You have yourself a good jumping off point to go out there, explore those strange new worlds, seek out alien life forms and subjugate them for the Empire.

Gives me another reason to go out there and pick up some of those small ships, as well.

I haven't even painted up those other ship lines before We had cardboard chits, the last time I played that game. .
