About the telescoping rod w/ steel ball magnet: how strong is it?

I'm wondering if your system could be attached (mounted onto a 40K flyer base for example) and used to mount 40K flyers so that you could change altitude and angle on them?

Ever tried it or seen it done?

Well unfortunately our supplier screwed us a second time and they are telling me we have an 8 week lead time on getting more telescoping rods in. They are out of stock for now. We are working on finding a new supplier.

I have no idea how big a 40k flier is. I can probably say for sure that it will not work. 1.72nd scale WWI fighters are about as big as you can get. It isn't all that strong. 1/144th and smaller metal planes work well.

I do have a Vendetta that I take to conventions as a display piece. I use the telescoping rod with screw tip for that. It works fine but the telescoping rod is a bit flimsy in the top two sections and it bow really bad. I usually only extend it 2 or so sections. Still gets it about 8" - 10" so off the table.

What size are the flyer bases?

Jonathan Bowen
CorSec Engineering
www.corseceng.com

I'm hoping to have a ball joint/magnet so I can make the bommas look like they are banking more so than changing elevation really...

We are working on flexible rods that would be powerful enough to do what you want but we they are proving cost prohibitive.

You could bend the last segment of the telescoping rod with screw mount. Give it a good 45 degree angle and then we can add the rubber rings from the Omni-Stand rods to let you position it for diving or banking. Problem is the base has to be large enough to take the off centered weight. If the base is similar in size to the vendetta then I think you'll have some issues with it falling over a lot.

Jonathan Bowen
CorSec Engineering
www.corseceng.com

Just make sure your base is really heavy and the rod is well attached and telescopes smoothly, because it will tip over easily. If you've got it on there really solidly, the thinnest portion of the rod still bears all of the weight of the vehicle when extended, and that thinnest portion is often the first to slide out when you change position, so you'll have to extend it beyond the height you want and then push it back down again or risk snapping the most internal part of the rod. In the end it's a pretty cool deal (though it is a very noticable shiny rod you can't paint holding your aircraft up), but it's a bit more hassle than it's really worth when you take the base size and fragility into account.

Just finished changing some stuff around on the Omni-Stand page. We created two new entries. One for Square bases and one for Etched Square bases.

We added 20mm and 30mm as option in the Square bases. These are the base sizes needed for Dropzone Commander. We already had 40mm as an option.

We also added some more Spartan Games compatible bases. We are supporting the French fleet and added the Extended 40mm base for those of you with Xelocian Cruisers.

http://corseceng.com/omni-stand/

Jonathan Bowen
CorSec Engineering
www.corseceng.com
