The most I can do is assemble a model and that's where I become afraid to do anything else to it. The thought of getting rid of mold lines scares me, not sure what kind of primer and paints I should use (too many options), and then there's the actual painting part. I have never bothered removing mould lines in 9 years in the hobby, you don't really need to worry about doing so when first getting into it.
