Honouring the Armed forces.

Tonight I went to my local ice hockey team's 25th anniversary match. As well as celebrating 25 years of Slough Jets with a match between the legends and more recent players, there was a shirt auction and all sorts with all proceeds going to Help for Heroes and SPICE (Special People on Ice). Now at the match was a number of soldiers who presented one of the man of the match awards and was in a photo with the teams. As they came out onto the ice the entire rink was on their feet clapping and cheering the soldiers. I have never seen this sort of thing for soldiers before other than them being on parade. Especially not in this area. I know that in US those in the armed forces tend to get a lot more respect than over here, so it came as a pleasant surprise to see this. Just thought I would share this with you guys.

You omitted the word "public". Some people resent having to publically do anything for charity, despite it apparently being obligatory.

Anyway, I'm cautious. Tvs and newspapers are full of screetching, whinging wifes and mothers of servicemen complaining about something or other. Why they're directing this to the public rather than the government, I've no idea.
