HQ's get attached to a random 10 man unit.
5 man Crusader squad hangs out in a ruin from a firing location but close enough to an objective if possible.
Assault Cannon Mortis moves up with the foot to get better range for his guns.
Lascannon Mortis lies in wait with Interceptor and Skyfire abilites to blow fliers out of the sky.

They do well at taking down the flyers.

Quick tip if you're playing night-scythe necron spam:

All 4 of my local stores go by this rule.

What book are these patterns from? I know mortis patterns started happening in Imperial Armour 2, but that load out isnt possible. "It isn't in your codex so you can't field it." Where I live they haven't allowed forge world models in tournaments sadly. I wish they did. The Imperial Armory books specifically state if the units or models are legal in a 40k game or an apocalypse game. It also specifically states which factions can use the unit or model. Your local store needs to learn to read, they are missing out on some models that make Codex marines pretty amazing to play.
