1st Captain Alexander, Lord of the Knights Tempest

WS6 BS5 S4 T4 W3 I5 A3 Ld10 Sv2+ Points: 165

Unit Type: Infantry

Wargear: Artificer Armour, Bolt Pistol, Frag and Krak Grenades, Iron Halo, Blade of the Storm

Special Rules: And They Shall Know No Fear, Combat Tactics, Independent Character, 1st Capatin, Oath of Vengence

Blade of the Storm: This blade was weilded by the first captain of the first company, and has remained as weapon of office for the captain.
This is an AP2 power sword

1st Captain: One unit of Veterans or Terminators may be taken as a troops choice.

Oath of Vengence: Alexander may re-roll to-hit rolls, when in a Challenge.

Looks good. I think 165pts is perfectly fair for re-roll hits at S4 and AP2 (considering he has 30pts in wargear options, paying a 35pts premium for AP2, re-rolls and a troop choice is fair). No the 'First Captain' rule doesn't include Terminator, just Vanguard and Sternguard. Should it include Terminators??

Well, fluff-wise, termies are veterans, so theoretically it should. Your call, especially if you want a distinction with your Chapter Master.

Seriously though, good work not creating some ungodly monster of a marine character. AP2 + rerolls is certainly good and well on a Captain, but far from OP. Three unique rules/wargear is all you have, and its not complicated/easy to remember.

I'm quite happy that people like this guy, it makes want to just start write rules for random characters for all the codex's. . .

Here we go:

Mitias Alexander ascended to the rank of 1st Captain after his predecessor was slain during the Cleasning of Betian IV from the Ork Warlord Skull Splitta. Elected by the Knights Tempest Chapter Council to inherit the rank, Alexander was formally promoted in front of most of the chapter. Upon re-swearing fealty to The Emperor and The Knights Tempest, Alexander was permitted to draw the Blade of the Storm, an ancient blade wielded by the first Captain of the 1st Brotherhood. As soon as ceremony permitteded, Alexander led his new Battle-Brothers to finish the campaign the previous Captain had started. Upon eradicating the last of the Orks, Alexander brought the severed head of Skull Splitta back to The Citadel and placed it on his mentor's tomb. Alexander continued to lead his Brotherhood with skill for 50 more years, until disaster struck the Knights Tempest.
Chapter Master Vindias as well as the 2nd, 6th and 7th Brotherhoods and a large portion of the Armoury and Chapter Fleet, Forsaked thier Oaths to the Emperor and pledged themselves to Chaos. The Citadel was thrown into anarchy, Brother-Marine fought Brother-Marine, there were no battle lines, fire fights erupted throughout the fortress between Squads and even individual Marines. Unfortunatley the Traitors had the upperhand, with most of thir forces grouped around the main keep, the Armoury and the Space Dock, Whislt the Loyalists were unorganised and in shock. It fell to Squad Sergeants to try to organise thier own units. Maybe by fortune or maybe Fate or even the hand of the Emperor guiding him, Alexander found a gap in the Traitors defense lines, and he led his veterans into the breach. It is said that Alexander shed tears as he laid about himself with the Blade of the Storm, killing Marines he knew by name. His small force pushed into the main keep, and while his surviving Veterans battled the Chapter Matsers Honour Guard, Alexander sought out Vindias.
As skilled as Alexander was with the Blade, he did not have the skill of the former Chapter Master, and after the first few blows were struck, he forsaw how this dual would end. Vindias's mace smashed into the side Alexander's leg, driving him down to one knee. Vindias offered Alexander a place at his side, join him, and live or die like a dog.
Alexander looked his former Master in the eyes. . . Put his hands to his chest. . . And made the sign of the Aquillia. Then Vindias armoured gauntlet crashed into the side of his head.

When Alexander came to, his beloved home was all but ruins. Over a third of the Knights Tempest turned renegade and just under 400 Loyaist casualties and another 150 wounded, half of the Techmarines had fled with the Traitors as well has most of the Chapter Fleet.
Taking stock of what was left of what was now technically his chapter, Alexander made an Oath to hunt down Vindias and slay him, so his soul could be judged by the Emperor.

Indeed he would. This guy is far from OP, but also not worthless, as he does something other than punch people's faces in. Thank you, I'm glad you think so. I don't particularly like the characters some people make for Space Marine, they are just way to OP.
