Daemons Update

I didn't see a thread on this (maybe I missed it) but I just got the White Dwarf update and it's pretty interesting. My opinions:

-Slaanesh Chariots
I never liked or understood chariots too much, frankly. These are about the most expensive ones in the game. The exalted and such definately are. Yeah, they're fast. They have a ward. You got poison. I just don' t know if they are much better than their component parts.
-Hellflayer
Same as above. Extra hits based on impact hits (which you might not get). And it's Rare. Meh.
-Flamers
Their Str needed to come down to 4. I think they were nerfed too much, however. This is the army's only shooting (other than new Soulgrinder). They are basically worse than Leadbelchers in range, penetration, wounds, WS, attacks, etc. They are Daemonic, flaming with +1 BS. The big change is they are Special now. Their new Warpfire rule is very odd. Not sure if it's an oversight but they no longer mention that they don't suffer -1 for multishot. If they do suffer it, they become a whole lot worse.
-Screamers
They changed the most by far. I'm not sure if DoC needed monster-killers before but they got them now. The min size Screamer unit can basically massacre Large Targets. Their flying attack got weakened, but they are now roughly flying, daemonic ogres (-1W but +Init). If anyone ever used Large Targets, they would be great. As it is, if you don't expect any, you're probably better off with just Core or Seekers or something. But they are still vastly better than they were before.
-Soul Grinders
The literally new big boys. Jeez, I had no idea how large that model was. It's kind of hard to figure out what their purpose is exactly. The grapeshot isn't especially useful as the range is so short and they are so fast they can get into combat pretty quickly (and do more guaranteed dmg). Physically, they have really fantastic stats with 7T and 6W and better Init than most monsters. Their attacks are a bit on the low side compared to stuff like the Arachnarok. But they got 4+ armor, 5+ ward (daemon) and that high Toughness make them extremely hard to hurt except by war machines, monsters, or maybe Seekers I could see getting the daemonbone claw just in case another monster, or hero, dares fight it, but the other upgrades are awful expensive. You're not going to sit there with a 300 point stone thrower chucking rocks. That's a waste of points. Because of it's thunderstomp and high defenses you should dump it into combat where it will also get immunity from shooting and (many) magic attacks. SOO, I'm not entirely sure it's purpose. On one hand, it's just another giant combat monster. But at least it's not a Lord and it doesn't cost 450. You can look at it as a baby Bloodthirster with a gun that if it dies your army doesn't fall to pieces. Also, since most people forgo using Greater Daemons and just get tons of heroes, this is still a way to have a heavy hitter. In some ways, I question the concept of multi-purpose weapons. The Ogre Ironblaster is good because of the cannon stats, but it's really just a super expensive cannon. Yes, it can resist being engaged in combat, but it's a cannon, you don't want it in combat. Like the Beastman Cygor. Would you rather have 1 monster-war machine combo or 3 war machines? I understand the balance, of course, it's making those non-shooty armies pay out the wazoo for getting a war machine.

Also, the new models look pretty cool. I'm surprised they redid flamers, as they looked good anyway. And I was kind of hoping for rules changes on some of the other stuff (Core and GW and Rares). But overall a decent update.

Re:Daemons Update

I usually don't like to complain much, but I found the entire update wasted (I'll look at it again)

At first glance, the rules are very difficult to read, there are several typos, and questions left to be answered or maybe they got their names mixed up as far as which characters can ride the chariots.

I never like the slanesh models or rules. They can't hit hard or well enough to stand up to anything in the game. Their chariots are still super frail and will die to bow fire most likely and then due to the size of the super big base, you can't combo charge anything.

The soulgrinder is neat, except the model doesn't fit the fantasy realm in my opinion, and the upgrades are terrible/pointless.

I can't think of one of the models that I would buy - or use in a game except maybe my converted soulgrinder.

Frankly I don't know enough about 6th ed. to make a comment on the 40k side, maybe they are better in 40k. As for fantasy, the new rules haven't tempted me to drag out my deamons army, yet.

Daemons Update

I havent played my daemons in fantasy but they 40k update for screamers and flamers made them pretty damn awesome.

Flamers have always been good but now they are cheaper and have 2 wounds and screamers can kill pretty much anything you want them to now.

Not sold completely on chariots, they are pretty fragile. Also pretty cheap compared to the fanstasy ones though.

I think overall its nice just to get an update and rekindle a bit of interest in daemons.

Daemons Update

Flamers are cheaper for 40k. They are crap for Fantasy. Most likely people will not be playing them anymore. They are awesome for 40k now.

Screamers seem to have a boost in both systems except are still lacking in Fantasy as they are not considered monsters.

The Chariots (at least the exalted one) seems to be worth its points in both 40k and Fantasy. You have to think tactically with it in Fantasy but it is well worth it.
