I was wondering if anyone could explain this to me but lately I've been thinking about the daemons in 40k (what with all the new releases) and was thinking about this; If daemons are formed from emotions how do chaos marines mutate into daemon princes and stuff like that?

Aye, it is usually explained as a "gift" by some patron.

I think the number of those that make the "full transition" from mutated human into full daemon is rather low, though. But even before reaching this final stage they might gain a small inkling of the daemons' ability to shape the raw energy of the warp and twist reality as well - with people that have not been psykers before suddenly developing the ability to "cast spells".

This warp-stuff can be colored by, affected by and shaped by emotions, and for those with the appropriate talents (or basic physiology, i.e. daemons) can be channeled into all sorts of effects in real-space.

deamon explanation needed please!

That's a better explanation, I guess.

I suppose it might work like in the Dragon Age-Setting (whose Fade does have a few parallels with Warhammer's Warp), where those daemons managing to penetrate the Veil and cross over into realspace take on a shape "emulating" the emotions they committed themselves to. In a way, for the daemons it is very much a matter of one's perception determining one's reality - though they have less power in the real world than within the Fade. It's less a matter of having an active control over their shape, but rather that the body is formed and deformed by their twisted idea of the emotions and thoughts that birthed them.

I think the same explanation might work in 40k as well.

deamon explanation needed please!

Except that is important when it comes to dealing with Daemons. Once formed, Daemons are not affected by other "emotions" outside those that form the foundation of their being. Thinking happy thoughts at a Bloodletter is not going to keep it from tearing your arms off and beating you to death with them, for example. While I suppose it would be *possible*, theoretically, to reshape a daemon with emotional energy, there doesn't seem to be a basis for it in the fluff.

IRT Chaos Space Marines becoming Daemon Princes, that is a gift granted to the favored champions of particular Ruinous Powers or even Chaos Undivided...basically a promotion from highly-skilled, widely-experienced and infinitely-dangerous mortal warrior to immortal warrior with all the previous skills and experience, plus a whole bunch of daemonic powers.

Re:deamon explanation needed please!

I see it as working like this. ...and honestly, I hate myself for putting it this simply, but hey.

People have emotions.
Emotions = warp power.
Warp power gathering = Chaos God, eventually.
Chaos God gives a bit of warp power to a champion to transform them into a Daemon.

So, no, they're not really made of emotion - but they are inexplicably linked to the Warp, and their patron's innate power, from that point on.

I should clarify - that's what happens with a Daemon *Prince*. Normal daemons are still created by their respective god giving up some of their power - but, as they're made purely of the stuff of the warp, they're much more linked to that original emotion than a Prince, who is tempered by their previous experience as a mortal.
