6th Edition is finally here. However, in exchange for fortresses, overwatch and objectives that explode, I've found my favorite army (DE) has been nerfed a boatload of times and no longer is a viable army. I do have my IG and SM, but both are poorly painted and are more geared to the parking lots of 5th edition or the mind of a beginning player (When I look at my SM, I think to my self, "why the heck did I waste so much money on this junk). So, with rumors blowing on the wind, I decided to make a leap of faith and start a chaos army.

The army itself will be a Chaos Marine-Traitor Guard/Vrak Renegades. For my Guard detachment, currently I'm looking at a 1 or 2 vet squads, a primaris psyker, a company command squad, 2 ruses, a manticore/basilisk and a platoon of zombie guardsmen to make up my allied choices. the plan is to have them hold a fortress of redemption and unleash a hail of firepower. The marines will most likely be undivided to get as many bodies on the table as possible. 2-3 squads of marines as well as a lord and his termie retinue (may be either khorne or undivided, waiting for the new rules to decide) and maybe a squad of bezerkers. Looking forward to the new flyer and demon engine, so I'll probably include those in there as well. Sorcerer is a must too, as well as a defiler and maybe some oblits (or those new maulers I keep hearing about). Of course, I'll figure all of this out when the codex is released.

Heres all the FW stuff I'll use to personalize my army:

the army its self has two fluff back rounds:

-In one, they are the Black Brethren of Eyreas who have come to Vraks to assist in defense of Vraks Prime

-In the other, they are a war band (unnamed as of now) who are trying to flank the imperial defense at the eye of terror. Due to the unfortunate turning of a primaris psyker inside the main fortress, the guardsmen are assualted by a horde of zombies and have no choice but to turn to chaos.

Basically, I pick whether to ally Guard of Vrak Renegades to my marines and choose the one that fits.

The purpose of this project, besides giving me a good army to fight with in 6th, is too improve my less than favorable painting skills and to get an army on the table I can be proud of.

Champion w/ PF and PP
Marine w/ Undivided Banner
Marine w/ Plasma Gun
Marine w/ Either HB, MG, or Flamer
6 more with a mix of boltguns, bolt pistols, and chainswords

Update:

A few more marines have been painted. The big thing is the new starter set pics were finally released today. So in a few weeks, I'll be adding Lord, a Hellbrute, some chosen and 18 cultists to my army. Heres the link to the pics:

To meet that, I've modeled them with a mix. If you can see in the pic, they are armed with a mix of boltguns, boltguns/cc weapons, and bolt pistols/cc weapons. theres also a meltagun and a plasma gun. I intend to have these guys capture and hold midfield/enemy objectives while my renegade guardsmen hold my own objectives.

But your right, these guys won't be charging into combat anytime soon, I modeled them this way just for the coolness factor. If they do have to choose between pistol/cc or bolt gun, then I'll just buy another box and make it to complete each squad (one shooting, one cc).
