However, buying four blisters of the cadian special weapons isn't too appealing, since I have no use for the meltaguns. I'd like to keep things consistant, but I suppose i could convert the meltaguns into plasma guns, if needed..

Does anyone have a good, cheap alternative? I was thinking of converting the flamers that come with the shock troop boxes... they are plentiful, and plastic, and I'm sure I could find acouple of local players who have some spare plasma pistols. If anyone has pictures of a converted IG plasma gun I'd really appreciate seeing 'em A list of parts used would be helpful, too!

It was fairly easy, Cut out the plastic flamer, stick in an extra Plasmagun. The only real dificulty was that I had to shave of a bunch from the inside of the gun so that it fit in with that arm. Looks fine though. Then I just made a pack that the gun plugs into. i suppose if you opened it you would find something high tech looking. but I decided they keep the plasma source in a fanny pack.
The only trick is getting plasmaguns. I just made a templar army and the templar sprue has a plasmagun on it, aswell as the regular SM command sprue. Templar are rolling in the special wepons, Find some other chump that just made a templar force and you are sure to find plasmaguns.

The plasma gun is a bit small but fits nicely with IG.

 

there's a left hand molded on so it works with the cadians.

 

Battlewagon Bits is probably a bitter pick though.

Then I slice the plasma pistol so it is cut from the back to the notch under the front. This cut is made low enough to retain the entire ribbed area above the rear of the pistol. The entire lasgun barrel is removed and enough of the weapon carriage above the stabilizing hand rest is also removed to allow a snug fit for the trimmed plasma pistol. It is a very cheap solution that only requires two cuts and the widely available for cheap plastic plasma pistols.
