Dropzone Commander - PHR Test Model

im not familiar with this game, but the model is really cool. Your did a great job keeping the metallics crisp. I think the red armor could use some variation or a decal, something to break it up a little. I see the highlights but a little more highlighting could really make this model look nice. Good work

Re:Dropzone Commander - PHR Test Model

It s a new sci-fi game in 10mm scale. It revolves around rapid deployment and redeployment of ground troops via dropships. It was released in June by a new company but models are just now getting off backorder due to high demand so they're kind of hard to find in stock anywhere. More info here http://www.hawkwargames.com/pages/dropzone-commander

That model when viewed from above isn't much bigger than a quarter.

Dropzone Commander - PHR Test Model

wow! Yeah, I was thinking 10mm is quite small. Well then I think that slightly changes my perception of your work. That is pretty amazing for such a small model. Sounds like it would be fun to play....if my disposable income could support buying models for 2 games I might try it out. Thanks for sharing the link

Re:Dropzone Commander - PHR Test Model

I would consider the models expensive but the game itself reletively inexpensive. I went overboard and spent maybe $500 on PHR forces. After I got the rulebook (which you can find for $20usd and contains the rules for all the armies btw) I totaled up how much I had bought and found out I have about 3,500 points worth. Most games will be played in the 1,500-2,000 point range like 40k but can be played with as little as 500 points and still maintain tactical effectiveness. The way the army lists work is that you are prevented from min/maxing. No taking an army of the best unit here. You are forced to play with a COMBINED ARMS force. Games aren't won by annihilating armies. They're won by capturing objectives. Games are also usually played in city type tables with skyscrapers an what not. Hawk games has provided PDFs that you can print onto card stock or labels and stick to foam core in order to construct a cheap city. They are however releasing city buildings in resin later down the road. Feel free to stop by the Hot LZ forums for more info http://hot-lz.com/index.php. As of yet it is the only real forum dedicated to the game as Hawk does not have the official forums up yet. Thanks for the kind words guys!

Dropzone Commander - PHR Test Model

Just from your brief explanation of the game it sounds like a player has to be a far better tactician than in 40k. I used to like back in the 2nd edition when GW actually limited you to a certain amount of elite, heavy, etc. I like smaller type games simply because of the fact that I rarely have 4+ hours to devote souly to the purpose of playing a game....so I like to keep my battles in 40k around 1500 anyway. I will definitely look into it. thanks for all the info!
