Nick over at Modest Magic makes modular pieces for terrain. Basically think of it as legos for wargaming adults lol. The amount of structures and ways you could assemble this stuff is mindboggling and as new pieces come out it'll just get better and better. Here is a very spur of the moment video with my iPhone of me taking some of the wall pieces off the "sprue" and then me breaking a piece on purpose. Note that while it doesn't look like it, because I was trying to hold the camera still, I really had to put some force behind breaking that piece.

Just to clarify, I am not a spokes person for Modest Magic in the slightest, but I am a HUGE fan of the terrain. Did a maiden test run of the modular terrain with Infinity tonight and it surpassed all my hopes. It was really fun to build the board and played flawlessly as a catacomb type dungeon board.












The most mind blowing part is that is a VERY well playable Infinity board for $40

De-sprueing (gotta love made up words) and assembly of this stuff is incredibly easy and fun. Your only real time consuming part will be painting and if you plan to round the edges to make it look like wraithbone.

You have to be careful with the brand that you choose but there are numerous brands that work on XPS (pink foam) My favorite is Krylons shortcuts that you can find at Wal-mart or joann fabrics or Hobby Lobby. Takes to the foam very well and dries almost instantly

Hex platforms for sale now! MM and I was rather shocked at how strong the stuff is for pink foam. Since all the engraving and cuts are made using a machine the stuff is very very durable. However if you really force or purposely try to mod it with a hobby knife it will break. It really seems like the best of both worlds.

You have a good idea here, and putting in a couple of easy to make plastic beams/ cardstock or styro walls with the cut doors/ windows/ ledges would be a good way to add in a full table of a future city, or a ruined one.

Necromunda Terraign style, Alien ( the movie) style, the other races in both Infinity and in GW's stuff..... there are so many ways that you could go with this.

Make those interlocking pieces for the walls, a few plastic struts, and maybe some bridge lines, walkways, ladder sectios, window frames, currogated metal textures, even go with those hex's in there.....

But looks like cut Styrofoam walls. Doesnt really scream sci fi to me unless you painting it all metal or something. A bit simplistic. Of course I suppose I've been a bit spoiled by seeing those big hunt corridors a few months ago. These looks easy to build

Even foam, which is easier to work with than many other mediums - has its challenges.

How easy is it for you to cut it straight?
That was one piece...now cut 10, or 50 square so they fit with no gaps.

I am not saying this stuff will win you best terrain at a big name event, but I think its a great way for people without a ton of time, tools or talent to get a jump on decent looking stuff.
