Re:galeforce 9 spartacus ;blood and treachery boardgame

Picked this up and played it a few times at Gen Con. Really fun game. It is sort of three mini-games in one. There is a short card game phase where you attempt to elevate your house/tear down your opponent's house. Then there is a small bidding game where you attempt to buy slaves, gladiators, weapons and the hosting rights for the next set of gladiatorial games. Finally there is small mini game where 2 gladiators actually fight in the arena. You can bet on who will win and how they will win (injury/decapitation). The arena can get a bit static once two opponent's get locked in hand to hand, and it ultimately becomes more of a dice/dice management game at that point. I think there is a great potential for an expansion at this level - multiple combatants, animals, cards that influence the battle...

Really easy to get the hang of, balanced resource management and a ton of fun. Highly recommended. Easily the highlight of the convention for me.

Was really impressed with the game as a whole. Was a lot more then the basic gladiator combat then I expected. Also in talking to the GF9 guys at gen con they mentioned the next expansion is already in the works and will include rules for combat with more then 2 gladiators
