Anyone got any ideas on a Vampire Counts Ice themed army. The ideas could be about painting, modeling, anything really. just post it here!!!

The skeleton models already look pretty viking-ish, you could run with that and make it a .. my fantasy fluff is not what it could be, those chaos viking guys up north, make it a vampire who has come from up there. Skeletons fit right in, maybe use marauders as either zombies or ghouls (probably ghouls) as well.

Other than that you could do a Kislev vampire army, undead bears as crypt horros/vargulfs/vargeists would be cool.

Here is my own little table of magicka for a fantasy setting.

In this Fire falls on the side of Elemental closest to Light and Frost on the side closest to Shadow. Frost is essentially a mixture of Shadow and Elemental Magic.

You could build an army themed around Vampires that use magic to slow their opponents (physically and mentally) as well use the Frost to strengthen their servants and use the cold to preserve them.

You're going to want to invest in a lot of lighter blues and whites in order to convey the icy look, make sure that there's something to offset all that brightness, also I would go the non-metallic route as far as painting weapons and armor, easier to convey that icy feel with a sword that has frost on it than a shiny blade. Also, converting a Warriors of Chaos champion or Lord to be a vampire would be easy and would make sense with the whole mythical northman, ice theme.

Lots of fur on your models, too, if these guys were raised from corpses from the north, then they're bound to have had fur cloaks and such on them, again, Chaos Warriors and mauraders would be the easiest in this circumstances, but you could also pick through a space wolf player's bit box and come up with some choice bits.

The Amber wizard for the empire, with some conversions would be an excellent necromancer model, maybe a good vampire if you could give him some armor somehow.

Gloss varnish/water effects might help make tings icy and wet.I'm sure there's an ice-base tutorial on youtube somewhere. PVA + Baking Soda for Snow Bases ....

I think a normal vampire, just perhaps with slightly frosted armour would do, a Chaos lord fig is too bulky- In terms of fluff, it makes more sense an out of favour sylvanian vampire travelled to the far north to resurrect an army of long dead nords or Kislevites- Perhaps even a ancient champion that uses Krell's rules and maybe his model painted appropriately.

Well...a flesh tone would be good to start with.

It's important to remember that the Ghouls are technically still "living" minions, just degenerate corpse eaters who are closer to dead than alive.

If it were me performing this specific army? I would add fur pelts and various other bits and pieces, to show that they are adapting to their new climate.

When it comes to the actual colors of the models?
A really pale flesh tone, with a tinge of blue and purple used as washes to make them almost appear frostbitten.

Try a frostbitten look on your fleshy stuff. Leathery looking skin with blackened extremities. Decorate with a few icicles and some tattered snow gear, and you are laughing.

Boney stuff, meanwhile, just gets covered in snow and ice.

You could also get creative, and have things like spirit hosts be "winter spirits", basically malevolent snowstorms.

Lastly, have vampires be untouched by the cold to show their magical powers.

I think rusty or heavily verdigris'd metal would look good on your Skeletons and such. Going for the icy theme I would imagine the skeletons would be out in the snow and ice constantly (since they don't care about the cold), so the weapons would not be in great shape.

Your paint scheme will have a LOT of blue tones, so maybe think about using something warm as a spot colour, like red. It'll tie the army together and draw the eye on the minis.

Well, before I started this thread, I had painted me Gohuls stark white and painted their fur red, so I will change it! Also, I'm not an amazing human painter, so I probably won't post pics.

I think paint job and basing can carry you a long way on this one too. I think the infantry would look absolutely great if you could manage icicles hanging off of limbs. The skeleton warriors in particular have a chance to look really striking in my opinion. If you get cracking, love to see some pics.

I like the idea of a frozen army for Vampire Counts.

Since could temperatures slow decay, I'd try avoid using the zombie models, and use models from other armies as Zombies. The freezing temperatures keep them fresh, you just have to add a few wounds, dark stains and pallid flesh colors.

I like the idea of adding snow to their heads and shoulders, like they've been standing in one place for a long time awaiting orders.
