Frost is just a no bs kind of guy that just wades in and gets 'er done. Murdoch is kind of fun because of the occasional steam punk elements, like the Tesla episode, that get injected into the show. What I also like about Murdoch is the way the characters that surround him help him along.

I haven't seen "Copper" but I have heard good things and hope to see it. Yup, although I haven't seen either of them yet. At least two of them had regular weekly runs as mystery shows on PBS and I'd catch Frost as my work schedule would allow. All three are available on Net Flix here now and I'm currently going back through the Frost episodes.

There is supposed to be some new Sherlock with Lucy Lui as Watson coming out before too long. I think shows like the The Wire and Law & Order are worth a mention due to the fact they have actual detectives doing the work and don't have to rely on a "specialist" to help them solve every case. +1 Columbo rocks. It's a pity that before he died, Peter Falk couldn't even remember playing him.

I also like some Sherlock Holmes, the ones with Basil Rathbone & Jeremy Brett, and Perry Mason, but that's not exactly a detective show as such.

Yeah, me too. If you can ever get hold of the 'Red Riding' trilogy, then I would strongly recommend it. Not a series per se, closer to the format Sherlock is in, i.e. three long-form episodes. Very good though.

Well, yeah. I guess it just reflects the reality over here in that respect. If the police shoot someone it typically makes the news, such is the rarity of an incident of that type occurring. But I liked Columbo, however Miss Marple with M.Rutherford is still better, nothing beats this.

Poirot with Suchet is also pure gold.

Holmes (the new modern times BBC Series, although there are already some nice Holmes series) is also very, very good.


Castle is more a pleasant and funny series.
