That's because CS Lewis read celtic mythology too

The DE are unseleighe Sidhe, with some hinky Pazuzu-goes-to-town vibe and a dash of Frankenstein/Cronos thrown in.

The eldar are heavily based on celtic myth (the Seleighe sidhe side- the nicer ones) including the craftworlds being named after old celtic holidays and the aesthetics. Mkes sense that the darker cousins would be too.

My favourite part of the fluff has to be the Covens though. Very dark and gribbly stuff

same, i love duke sliscus so far i love how the kabals were created by vect in the fluff. When i consider that i can make each squad sifferent colours so far i want to do a worn wraithbone style with metal touched in like in soulstorm when the dark eldar took wraithbone. The codex gives them the sinister feel that i come to expect with the exact style i expect on the table speed is better than plate mail.

I hope the duke gets a nice model same with the decapitaor and vect.

Re:Most enjoyable part of dark eldar fluff

Yes, Tolkien based his work heavily on Celtic and Norse mythology.

He was the first person to have Elves be tall fair folk, IIRC. Prior to him, elves in various mythologies were more like leprechauns then 'perfect' humans. Santa's elves pretty much.

The modern Fantesy concept of Elves is almost exclusivly due to Tolkien.

Dwarves are pretty much unchanged, although tolkien popularized their image and fleshed out some of the major details.

The Sidhe are 'tall, fair folk' in Irish myth. Human+ iif you want to look at it that way:

They had a thing for human women too, which just makes them hinky..

Tolkien brought it all together, and an awful lot of Fantasy is either based on his work, or deliberately avoiding it's archetypes

Norse Ljósálfar (light elves), as mentioned on the Eddas, are also angelic in looks and nature, and "fairer than the sun to look at".

Interesting enough, the Eddas also mentions dark elves.

Current depictions of the Dark Elves, however, borrow heavily from the Alps of german folklore which, as Grey Templar said, look less like the blond, tall elves of celtic/norse myth and more like lascivious goblins or twisted leprechauns.

That said, I'm too in love with the Ancient Rome meets 17th Century Tortuga meets anarcho-capitalism that is Dark Eldar society.
