facing BT

Never played against Black Templars before. Any suggestions, tips, or tactics when fighting against BT? I am taking Necrons and trying to decide between a mechanized or foot list.

BT armies usually are vehicle heavy and have lots of heavy weapons, correct?

Re:facing BT

Any time you kill something in a squad (even if it's just one model out of 20) they'll have to take a morale test. If they succeed they HAVE to consolidate 1D6" towards your closest unit (any unit if they have a Chaplain). If they fail they run, potentially running them off the table. I'd assume your opponent will take double CML Tank hunters Terminators, Land Speeder Typhoons and Lasplas-squads. If the lasplas squads are on the second floor of a ruin, make sure to shoot at them until something dies; they'll have to consolidate down to the first floor on a roll of 3+ on their consolidate roll, which means they'll be out of position and with a much worse line of fire.

facing BT

BTs will normally go all shooty as mentioned above as it's their most competitive setup.
The above advice is real good, if you have wraiths and flyers you should do well, close up to them and get the charge with the wraiths.... A mechanized cron list will probably get torn up as BTs can field a lot of cheap heavy weapons.

facing BT

Oof, that's really small.

So, you already know the mission type? Hm...Well, I would suggest as much tesla as you can muster, so at least two 10 man immortal squads.

Take at least one HQ (preferably one with a res orb) that will open up a court and can last in close combat (he doesn't have to be a beast, just one that can last a couple rounds, I recommend zahndrekh).

5 man sword/board lychguard (if you got 'em). Plop HQ with them.

5 crypteks: 4 destruct-teks, 1 chrono-tek. Keep them in cover with good LOS lines if possible.

Annihilation barges. However many you want.

I would recommend a triarch stalker if you got it, if played well they're VERY VERY useful. Use them to basically markerlight a unit you want the crypteks to light up.

I know some people will tell you wraiths, probably not a bad idea but you might not have room for them.

Possibly some destroyers, but at such a small point value I don't think they'd be very helpful.

Beyond that, I'd suggest as much shooting as you can get. Maybe throw in a few squads of warriors (yes, warriors).

Sorry I'm not costing out everything here, but I've found it to be very effective to bring weight of fire to BT and not worry so much about the strength of the fire.

For instance, use triarch stalker to TL everyone on the BT Warlord and the unit he's attached to and then just focus on that unit for that round, as much as you can or as much as is necessary. Start with the small arms fire and save the big guns for LAST, you don't want your power shots wasted on some peon (obviously the stalker will be wasting it's shot on some peon, but it's worth it).

Just stay in cover as much as possible, focus as much firepower on as few units as possible (obviously be tactically advantageous about it), and just force a lot of saves. Even 2+ saves get failed when there are 15+ of them to make.
