Innoms WWII blog - FoW/Bolt Action

Greetings fellow dakkaists!

I managed to grab a "best tank team" -award at Iron Cross 2012, held at FoW european grand tournament, England.
The piece I did was somewhat rare from me, since I usually just try to cut corners in the painting stages to get stuff fast onto gaming tables
Here is the tank that won the price :
(there are more shots from different angles in my gallery)

I had many people asking about my techniques and such - and I was kind of bummed out that I couldnt really give a detailed explanation on the work stages, since I kind of did stuff "on the go" - so cant really remember what I did or atleast at what stage. To counter this in the future, I decided to make a blog entry that hopefully will serve me too in the future as a sort of notebook of sorts. I will post stuff I do here, mainly Flames of War and Bolt Action - but who knows what I might dive into in the future.

At the moment on my workbench is a 28mm scale Hetzer from Warlord Games - They just released a new shiny rulebook for their game Bolt Action, and I got lucked out when I was set to watch Alessio Cavatore explain his creation trough a game of show and tell. I kind of wanted to try something in a bigger scale as my recent stuff has been pretty much only 1/100 scale (aka FoW scale) so I welcomed the chance to buy some Bolt Action miniatures to go with my rulebook.

I think the Hetzer is of older stock, since the standard of detail of Bolt Action models ive seen surpasses the poor Hetzer quite easily. Since it is one of my favourite tanks, I just had to try and do it some honor, starting with adding alot of detail and reworking stuff that did not fit my eye:

After I was satisfied with the lvl of detail (mind you, I cut some corners here and there) I set to painting it, and this is how it looks like now (obviously still very WIP)

I used a product called "panzer putty" for the first time and let me the one to tell you that it is mindblowingly awesome! Its very much like blue tac, only non sticky and seems to react better to heat, meaning it gets softer the more you churn it between your fingers and when its cold its rather solid. I made the 3-colour scheme rather painlesly with said putty and my trusty airbrush, after which I added decals and started doing panel work with dark brown and pale bone colours.

Ill throw some more pics online as the project advances

- M
