http://blog.sashaweb.net/?p=42 - My thoughts on this

For those of you who don't know who this is, he's a humor writer who writes about drunken antics, and has way too many side stories about all the times he's had sex, which are probably exaggerated. He has a website, tuckermax.com

I read two of his books, and in the second one, he expressed total shock at the fact that all his fans were nerds. As someone who associates with Warhammer other players, I suspected that as soon as he started mentioning them. Dondrekhan had a lot of words for the fact that he was disappointed in his fans; they were though, parasitic posers, and I think that warrants disappointment to some extent.

This guy is kind of the patron saint of douchebags. Us cool people (nerds) would stereotypically look up to him because he is well-manicured, witty, and popular. He is not being described in a way that makes it sound as if there is anything actually humorous about him or anything he does. Each time someone has described him it was almost always in a negative way. Reading posts that came up afterward still have followed that same essential form. Trying to sell him as the 'patron saint of douchebags' is a pretty sad selling point. I don't buy that, he may have been relatively disconnected from reality, but not so disconnected that he couldn't see the stories he was telling happened to be extraordinary.

Automatically Appended Next Post:

Inquisitor Ehrenstein wrote:

I would probably think the same thing if I didn't find antics to have a lot of humor potential.

See, here's the thing. I'm not going to say my collegiate and early post-collegiate life was like what Tucker Max describes, but I know from personal experience what happens when a bunch of wealthy early 20-somethings with an air of self-importance descend on a club full of women that are, we'll say, easily taken in. As long as you're reasonably good looking, have some money to throw around, and show a degree of confidence the only thing standing between you and a one-night stand is you.

This isn't to say that the women in question have no agency, generally they're there for the express purpose of meeting men with money, but the point is that what Tucker Max does is directly promote that kind of culture. This unfortunately serves to motivate men who don't live that kind of lifestyle (ie. play that game) to prey upon naive and drunk girls by way of a false belief that it is somehow glamorous without really understanding the fundamental difference between their position, and one like Tucker Max's.
