				<title>Lychguards or Triarch Praetorians? </title>
				<description><![CDATA[ Alright guys, so I just recently added to my Necron Legion, making up to 4950 points. The things I just got are 2 boxes of Lychguard/Triarch Praetorians and a Monolith. I intend to keep all of it. However, I <br /> <br /> don't know which I should build them as. I already have 10 Lychguards with hyperphase swords and dispersion shields, but I could make another 10 with warscythes to charge out of the Barn Door. <br /> <br /> Alternatively, I could have 10 Praetorians firing their Str5 Ap2 guns and then charging in afterwards (I don't want the particle caster/voidblades). Either way, they'd both be coming out of the Monolith. The <br /> <br /> armies I usually face are: Blood Angel Descent of Angels list, Tyranid Elite list (very little hormagaunts/genestealers, but lots of <span class="glossaryitem" onmouseover='gp(93);'>MC</span> and Warriors), Tau Gunline list, Space Marine Parking Lot list, or Dark <br /> <br /> Eldar Speedboat list. 				<description><![CDATA[ Just so you are clear, I'm about 99% certain that units can't charge the turn you redeploy them with the monolith, so if you plan on using warscythe Lychguard, be prepared to have them be shot up a lot the turn they deploy.  I'm also not a fan of sword and board lychguard, the changes to power weapons made them a lot worse and you are paying more points than you would for a terminator.  <br /> <br /> Praetorians have a slight advantage because of their mobility, so I would probably take them.  The effectively get a second free bonus attack on the charge because of their weapons shooting profile, and although they aren't as good against vehicles... well... you're playing bloody 'crons.  We're the best <span class="glossaryitem" onmouseover='gp(482);'>AT</span> army in the game thanks to all the Gauss we can take.  <br /> <br /> Another option I like, although it may not apply to you, is to convert the Lychguard/Triarch into Crypteks.  This is especially easy if you have a little bit of greenstuff and some leftover Deathmark heads.  ]]></description>

Sure, <span class="glossaryitem" onmouseover='gp(6);'>AP</span> 2 on all attacks is nice, but I feel like there is a greater degree of utility with the other build.<br /> You get more attacks in assault, longer range during shooting, can take on vehicles (thanks to the wonderful entropic strike), and even get rending.  Plus you still get to strike ahead of anything with unwieldy.  <br /> That's just my take.  You may have something specific in mind for them.]]></description>

				<description><![CDATA[ I prefer <span class="glossaryitem" onmouseover='gp(566);'>RoC</span> TP's, but ONLY If you run a <span class="glossaryitem" onmouseover='gp(585);'>Dlord</span> with them.  They go from Zero to hero, if you throw a <span class="glossaryitem" onmouseover='gp(585);'>Dlord</span> with them. The Res Orb and <span class="glossaryitem" onmouseover='gp(487);'>PE</span> just works wonderfully with their shooting attack and Melee. Keep in mind that that the <span class="glossaryitem" onmouseover='gp(566);'>ROC</span> is a power Axe now, so you are hitting at Strength 6, AP2, <span class="glossaryitem" onmouseover='gp(74);'>Init</span> 1.<br /> <br /> Lychguard just aren't very good anymore, <span class="glossaryitem" onmouseover='gp(72);'>IMO</span>. You pretty much have to spend a Nightscythe to get them into position, and then they still have to weather a turn of fire before they can do anything. They need an Orb lord at the very least, as well.<br /> <br /> If you don't have any, I'd say go for the TPs. They are not the most competitive unit, but they are a lot of fun, and in conjunction with a <span class="glossaryitem" onmouseover='gp(585);'>Dlord</span> can really wreck things.<br /> <br /> ]]></description>

				<description><![CDATA[ How about neither?<br /> <br /> The models look great, but both units are pretty terrible.  Scytheguard can hurt, but they're unable to assault out of any transport and have no protection to ensure they get to swing those tasty warscythes at I2.  Praetorians are mobile with AP2 in combat, but no invul and only 1 attack seriously hampers their effectiveness.<br /> <br /> If you want a smashy assault unit, take a Royal Court with Lords.  You can take a variety of wargear and mount them in a Ghost Ark (an actual assault transport).  It's a ridiculous unit, but it wins on style points.]]></description>

				<description><![CDATA[ Great points all around guys, thanks a lot. But i really do think i'll have the scytheguard. The models are beautiful, they aren't bad at all, and they can be a real fun unit to field and paint, i've found. & i don't see how you guys can make the point that either variant of lychguards are, in any way, below average. In a big tourney at my buddy's house (we played massive 3000 point games) one of the rounds i was against nids. My deathstar was 10 guards with swords and boards and a tricked-out overlord. By the time i wiped him on turn 6, that squad alone cleaved through: Swarmlord and 3 tyrant guard, 3 carnifexes, tyrannofex, 2 pyrovores, 3 warriors, and a trygon prime. my permanent losses of models? 2. 2 lychguards didn't wake up from their naps.]]></description>

				<description><![CDATA[ I don't know, I friggen love scythe guard.  I am glad you are deciding to go with them. From what I have read, they need the love.  Anyway, they've always performed admirably in my own lists. Yes the rez lord is kinda mandatory for them, but my <span class="glossaryitem" onmouseover='gp(56);'>HQ</span> always goes with them anyway.  They are just a great unit to just soak up enemy fire so the rest of my army usually doesn't take too much damage.  I can understand why people don't like them compared to other choices, but for what they do I think they are pretty good.  They are no wraiths that is for sure, but against anything with an <span class="glossaryitem" onmouseover='gp(6);'>AP</span> value above 3, I feel they are actually more durable having that higher toughness and <span class="glossaryitem" onmouseover='gp(293);'>RP</span>.  I would at least put them up as an average unit, definitely not below average.  Below average is where the flayed ones are at, and I'll be damned is someone puts my lychguard down there with them  <img src="/s/i/a/39ea8e0dbfb45dcc6b802cd0e198dba3.gif" border="0">   I think the common mistake is to compare them to terminators. I don't really get why, is it because they have the same points base, fill an elite slot, and have AP2 weapons?  I never really thought to compare them on that basis and never really liked to.  I am under the impression that they are their own unique unit that has their own strengths and weaknesses. You just have to play around those strengths and weaknesses.]]></description>

In this case, I think Warscythes would be your best bet. You lose a lot of surviveability, but gain the ability to threaten anything.  ]]></description>

				<description><![CDATA[ So I did end up going with Scytheguard, and I played a game at my local gaming store yesterday. It was a 1750 game vs Grey Knights. By Turn 4, both armies were reduced to roughly 20% strength, but the Scytheguard cut through: 13 purifiers w/ Coteaz and a <span class="glossaryitem" onmouseover='gp(524);'>GM</span>, 10 Grey Knight Terminators, and a Dreadknight!!! I did end up only having an Overlord with 1 wound and 3 Lychguards left, but I was blown away by the results.]]></description>

By Turn 4, both armies were reduced to roughly 20% strength, but the Scytheguard cut through: 13 purifiers w/ Coteaz and a <span class="glossaryitem" onmouseover='gp(524);'>GM</span>, 10 Grey Knight Terminators, and a Dreadknight!!! I did end up only having an Overlord with 1 wound and 3 Lychguards left, but I was blown away by the results.</div></blockquote><br /> <br /> That is disgustingly awesome. Plus, at one point, i rolled 9 reanimation protocol rolls and they all passed with the orb... needless to say, many swear words were soon passed by my opponent lolololol. Also, with the purifiers cleansing flame psychic attack, i was able to get 2 deny the witch rolls in row, to which i promptly stated "Ba-ba-bam, yup. That just happened."]]></description>
