Tau Fire Warrior Helmet Lens Question

I finished painting my Fire Warrior Shas'ui last night as a test before I do the remaining figures and ran into a minor issue - the main lens on the helmet has a hole in the center. The GW Tau painting guide doesn't have a lot of detail, but the lense in the picture looks like a solid piece. How have other painters handled this? Do you fill in the hole with one color? I left the hole black and painted a little gradient of green (the lens color I chose) on one side of the raised edge, with a tiny dot of white on the opposite raised edge. It doesn't look bad, but it also doesn't look like the picture. Any tips or advice would be appreciated.

This isnt my pic but i have done a similar thing. Just follow a usual gem effect guide the finished effect should give the illusion of it being one piece.

The indentation actually makes it easier to do the gem effect. because there is a ridge you can follow without messing up the center. Just paint it as normal and it is so small no one will tell.

Re:Tau Fire Warrior Helmet Lens Question

Thanks to everyone for the advice. I ended up sticking to my initial plan since that seems to be the consensus. I think it turned out well:
