These are my bases and they are pretty easy to do, its quick and done not look half base for stone.

1)base black.

2)Dry brush a dark gray

3) dry brush a lighter gray on top of that,

4) do another light dry brush of white over it. make sure you get white on all the edges to look like its broken off.

If it's really coarse rock I just prime black, dry brush dark grey, dry brush mid-grey and then dry brush light grey.
