re-priming Orks?

So I didn't have any primer so my buddy primed them white. I did not think it would matter because I would be painting over it so I painted a single model, and it looks horrible. Well I went and picked up some chaos black primer and was wondering, can I just prime over them and then paint, or do I need to remove the white primer first and then prime them black?

As long as the primer isnt super thick youll be fine, Ive done it a few times and had no real problems. I had the reverse happen. I USED to prime mine in black, now I prime them in white, so the boyz that WERE black, were then primed white. No problems at all. Why dont you like white though??? Its the easiest primer to paint on to

Prime black
2.) Do a light drybrush of a medium grey.
3.) Pick out some armor plates and do in Boltgun Metal or equivalent.
4.) Wash with black wash.
5.) Now paint the skin with my usual recipe (orkhide shade, knarloc green, a tiny touch of goblin green, wash of thraka green), and pick out leg wrappings and such with a beige. There's more to it bur that's the crux.

I dont use GW primer and use 1$ black paint from Walmart... no issues yet, other than dont paint when its 110 F in AZ otherwise it flash dries as you spray. Just read the labels if your not sure. The only paint ive had issues with was a gloss color... luckily it was not on a mini.

GL and paint da boyz!

re-priming Orks?

White makes detail stand out better than black, that much is obvious.

What made me dislike it is if i am building it before painting (i.e. any scratchbuild or units i need to be able to field faster than i can paint) it makes it even harder to get rid of the unpainted patches. The chests on most of my boyz i painted white sticks out like a sore thumb so i got sick of it and ripped their supporting shooty arm off so i could paint the damn thing lol.

I am using my white primer i have left on any further boyz, but i refuse to fully construct them now. So i field headless, 1armed shooty boyz if i dont have enough painted ones lol

EDIT: For the record, my boyz once that white chest was dealt with look exactly the same if not better than my black primed ones (i say better because practice makes perfect!). the end project shouldnt be effected by the primer unless you are using very thin paints so the primer isnt totally blocked off.
Primer doesnt need to completely coat the model, most of mine have a lot of grey spots i didnt bother with because it still has a splatter of primer which is all i needed. Its there to provide some teeth for the paint, not alter its outcome.

Yanno Ive heard of people priming their scratch builds and such, black first, and then white over that, so it gives an even white. Im gunna give that a go when I paint my newly made up warboss, because hes got some random colored plastics on him currently.
