Magnatizing a Forge/Mauler-Fiend???

My family bought me a couple of Chaos Space Marine boxes for Christmas, unfortunately for them it was stuff that I already have and do not need more of. 1 box of standard & 1 box of . I've decided to return the sets as I already have all of my troop slots filled at this time and use the proceeds to pick up a Forge/Mauler-Fiend as I do not have one yet. I also do not have the current codex so I do not know if it is a wise investment for a themed army or not. My primary reason for posing here is I would rather like to magnetize the beast so that I can run it both ways instead of only having one or the other. Has anybody else attempted this feat or are they designed just right so that you cannot insert magnets to switch around limbs?

BLOOD FOR THE BLOOD GOD!!!

A guy at my FLGS has his set up so that all the options are magnetized. I can't give you more than that, but I know it is possible to use all the bits in a single kit for both versions using magnets.

You can definitely do it, but it's posing will be a bit weird. The forgefiend has a 3rd pair of legs in the place of where the melta cutters/lasher whips would be. You could certainly have that pinned/drilled.

It's very doable if you know what you're doing. I'd STRONGLY suggest pinning the head, as then you can swap between plasma/etc.

The tougher part will be swapping between the guns(autocannons to plasma), but I strongly suggest the autocannons anyway. They're so much better! 8 S8 shots is killer!

As for theming your army, a maulerfiend SCREAMS khorne. it's basically a Khornate dreadnought, and actually, significantly better.

Re:Magnatizing a Forge/Mauler-Fiend???

The venue that my Christmas presents where from has a "No Returns on Miniatures" rule but the guy at the counter rang it threw as a swap even thou they already had ordered replacements of the two boxes sense it was a Christmas gift. I have sense told my family that if they want to get me mini's for Christmas just get me a gift certificate as I know what I'm wanting. So I did get my new Forge/Mauler-Fiend, and have looked at the parts to see where I can start locating magnets along with the instruction manual. I've also found a couple of youtube videos of other people who have magnetized theirs and just have to figure out what size of magnets to order. Personally my favorite location to get them is K&J. So this is really going to be a Work In Progress for me. I also need to get more Chaos/Abaddon black as my current bottle is basically out after working on my Chaos Marines from the "Dark Vengeance" box set. I will keep everybody updated with my progress as it unfolds.

NOTES OF BUILDING MY MAGNETIZED MAULER/FORGE-FIEND.

Sorry about not having the photo's in this posting yet. I have not transferred them from the camera to the laptop for uploading just yet.

I clipped out the two halves of the main body. Making certain to keep the magnets going all the same direction I stacked them in a line and tested to see if they could fit in the mold holds. I had measured them and they where 1/8 inch. So I ordered 40 1/8th" by 1/32" magnets to get to work.

I used "insta-cure+" to glue the magnets into place for their first fitting and then went over them with green stuff to secure them in place inside the body before I started painting.

Base coat is in the new Abaddon Black that was hand painted on instead of using the spray can. Personally I've found that the can paint does not have the same color as the bottle paint in the past.

Next I worked on the neck, I did not have to worry about the magnets for this section as I am planning on gluing the neck to the body so I just glued a magnet to the inside of the neck. I then positioned magnets in the two different heads after getting them in sync with the one in the neck.

The one part the really has me worried is going the feet and legs. Luckily the molds for the legs up at the hips have indents where the magnets can fit. As for where the feet go to connect with base I am worried. They where designed with ball joints that just fit into place. So I took my time to get one magnet into position on a foot and then just patterned off of it.

As of this posting I have the heads, neck, body, and legs all magnetized and base coated. My next step is going to be working on the arms & base.
I'm still debating if i want to magnetize the guns or if I just want to pin them?
