To blend or highlight metals?

Hey dakkas! Working on my white Chaos Space marines - and while it's looking great so far I wanted to give it even better look, in particular metal parts

So what can I do about this? I had two roughly two ideas so if someone can guide me on what to do..?

I painted my model white, painted metal parts and washed with devlan mud - turned out great. So I had an idea to leave darker and lower areas of washed metal parts without repainting them boltgun, while moving upwards to higher areas to work blending with boltgun metal to chainmail to mithril? Would this work or would it be barely noticeable? Or should I just do boltgun to mithril to actually see the difference?

or should I just highlight top edges of metal with mithril? Provided I can't do much of drybrusing there or I'll dust off some metal dust onto white armor plates :(

Thx for any suggestions!
