My current army is Scab Red (now called Khorne Red), I'm going to highlight with Wazdakka Red and test wash two figures, one with Nuln Oil (which is blackish), and the other with Reikland Fleshshade (which is a deep orange) to test the effects. I also plan on picking up Bloodletter Glaze for testing it and the Lamentor's Shade Yellow Glaze for my golden parts.

My brother plays Angry Marines so he's considering a Casandora Yellow Wash or Nuln Oil, and using Lamentor's Shade and Bloodletter Glazes to pop his colors.

How well do these work? Any good examples? Are they really worth it? I was going to use them on the areas of glowing red on my weapons and goggles for my Tau, and the Yellow on my Golden sub-parts for my army (since my army is Scab Red and Gold)

I've only ever used Citadel washes and personally find the new ones even better than the old favourites, they seem to stain the mini less and sit better in the places you want the shading.

That makes me very happy, Nuln Oil is the one I was really considering for my Scab Red primary coat army. I have Reikland Fleshshade for testing too though just incase I want a reddish-brown wash.

How exactly do you use a Wash? Do you just brush it lightly over the whole figure and let it seep into the crevices? With regards to application you can slap it all over and let it settle into the recesses, or you can guide it directly in the deepest recesses and clean up any over spill with a cotton bud.

For shading you'd generally slap it over the base coat and the highlight up from there, but I also use it between highlights on faces etc.

You can also use washes in combination with each other, for instance on my CSM I do a heavy slash of crimson, then a more directed wash of violet to the lower parts of the armour, finally once i've done the silver trims it all gets a heavy wash of black.

The important thing with washes is to let them dry completely before you do anything else, this can take anything up to an hour or more.
