Gold

If anyone has any tips for getting gold to cover they'd be much appreciated. I'm using the old GW Shining Gold over a white base and it is not covering at all well. I'm painting all my Dreadfleet "goody" ships gold so if possible I'd like to get away with as few coats as I can. Is there a better base colour to use?
Thanks

I have had really good luck with pre-coating with bestial brown or whatever the new color is (mornfang, I think). It really makes the gold pop. Plus, it give a really good effect in the crevices on the model. That's just my experience, hope it helps!

If your using an acrylic water based gold, you can darken or lighten the color by varying the brown you put underneath. For example if I want a good shiny gold I use Beast Brown as the base coat. for something lighter I use Khaki Brown.

Mix a little gold with a brown and use this as your base coat over primer, then pure shining gold, wash with agrax or equivalent and touch up the gold again, if you need to highlight use a small bit of mithril silver with gold and adjust as needed. works a treat I used it on my Sang Guard and they turned out pretty well!
