Need help with Vulture gunship

I just got the Forge world vulture gunship and I need help with placing the pilots/seats inside the cockpit; what I find is that the pilot seats and the instruments are to wide to fit in the cockpit; I tried cutting the pegs on the side and shaving it down a little to get them to fit; how do other people do it? The instructions aren't very helpful

carve the edges a bit. Also, see if you can take a little away from the inside of the cockpit. If you take too much away, just add something under the pilot piece to prop it up.
