Green Tide hybrid list? 1500 points

I'm trying out my orks for the first time in 6th edition this weekend. One of my opponents will be a friend who is pretty new to the hobby so I don't want to bring my hardest list, but don't want to get steamrolled over either. I welcome any thoughts on how to adjust the list as a fairly friendly take all comers list. Thanks!

2x KFF meks w/pk and boss pole (to make sure everybody gets a 5+ cover save while running across the board)

3x 29 slugga boyz with a pk nob (one nob will have a boss pole, the other two mobs will have the big meks with their bps)

3x 11 slugga boyz with a pk nob in red paint trukks (the idea here is to try and get a unit or two into the enemy quickly, to try and tie them up a bit while my 90 orks hoof it across the board)

1 deff dread w/extra cc arm and skorcha

5 lootas

I'm doing the math in my head but I believe this leaves me with 9 extra points to spend. I could remove red paint from two trukks and add a sixth loota.

I would have to agree with Phatonic. I run 180 shoota boys in my green tide. All with big shootas too. Just how many shots you have is so much dice rolling! and hey that's why we play orks right? shootas are just better in 6th now especially because no one then wants to charge a mob of 30 shoota boyz as well.

Shoota boyz are amazing I agree, but in my opinion sluggas are still better. Yea, turn two you get a ton of shots and their awesome, but once you get assaulted, only having two attacks really hurts. Orks ALWAYS want to get the charge so they get heir str 4 and the obvious ass ton of dice. If your running shoota boyz, your not really playing to assault and therefore set yourself up for being assaulted. I mean, you could be playing to get into the assault but in my opinion why would you run shoota boyz then? I have always found shoota boyz to be my go to mid field objective camper, their amazing and holding down an objective and dishing out a ton of shots provided I have my slugga boyz in front of them to keep them safe.

I'm sure a ton of people would disagree with me, but I'm going to stick to my guns and say 1 shoota mob to every 2 slugga mobs... Just my two cents

Thanks for the comments guys!

I agree with Bad_Sheep37 on sluggas over shootas. I've watched a few of your battle reports and got some pretty good pointers for playing a horde style army. I'm not saying that massive shootas won't work, and I'll likely try it out soon, maybe use my sluggas as counts-as shootas in one of my games this weekend.

Green Tide hybrid list? 1500 points

I find that the shootaboys and sluggaboys tend to have the same number of attacks, if not the shootas having more.

In the one turn standpoint, if they had the charge, they have the same number attacks.
Sluggas: 2;Base + 1;Weapon + 1;Charge +1;Shooting attack pre-charge Total: 5 Attacks per boy
Shootas: 2;Base + 1;Charge + 2;Shooting attack pre-charge. Total: 5 attacks per boy
In the end they both have the attack dish-out that the other has, but shootas get overwatch and an advantage beyond the the one turn aspect.

In a two-turn aspect, the shootaboys have another round of shooting to be had, because they have longer ranged weapons. So you can pretty much add another 2 attacks to the shootaboys in the previous setup to a total of 7 attacks for shootaboys.

Just somethign to think about.

I completely agree with you there, however you have to think about how standing still and not running effects the squad in terms of how long it takes to get into combat. Also look at the quality of attacks. Us your rolling 60 dice in the shooting phase, however your rolling 5s and if your shooting n turn 2, not all of them may be in range. Keeping yourself out of close combat gives your opponent more time to shoot the hell out of you and waddle you down... Not to mention those extra attacks in close combat go a LONG way, especially if it goes e tra rounds. Once your str drops back down to 3, your going to be thanking the dice gods you have that extra attack... Just my 7 cents.
