There are already rules for fielding them with the DKoK and now with Hull Points arguably nerfing all vehicles surely this is a possibility for the next guard dex. Something along the lines of squadrons of exterminators, punishers and/or conquerors for troops, and then you're basic russ and exterminators for Heavy support.

Rules for an Armored Company, updated for 6th edition and does exactly what you describe. It can ally with codex IG. Armoured Battlegroup (or company, can't remember) is an army list in a few Forge World books.

But the IG Armored Company rules are exactly what you want, and they are tourney legal if your tourney allows FW (which, I have only been to 1 that didn't allow it. They guy running it was a jerk though). It's not in WD, it's not Apoc, and it's not DKoK. Oh, and they have the same allies matrix as IG so they can be brought as allies to any thing the IG can ally with, along with the ability to ally with IG

EDIT: Oh, and yes it's a freaking cool idea.
