Airbrush help

I've got myself a nice little compressor and it came with an airbrush, trouble is it will not do any detail work. It seems to be a bit like a giant base coat brush, Whitch is nice when I need to block out some infantry. I'm looking at being able to do details like blending and highlights with a airbrush and I've seen on YouTube that the pros on there can have there airbrush a few cm from the model and still have a good controll. So Whitch brush do I buy from eBay to be able to do this. Thanks again for this
Jonny

Which brush do you have and what PSI are you trying to do detail work with?

Typically you want around 10 for detail work, the lower the PSI the smaller the diameter of paint that will be sprayed.

Airbrush help

This really is a question like 'Which car should I buy if I want to look cool?" No offence xD everyone has a (often completely biased) opinion

There's several options:
You can buy a cheap chinese replica which does most of the things a quality airbrush can do, or you can dish out for a quality brush. Personally I think one can start off with a replica, to learn the drill of how to actually use an airbrush, thinning paints, cleaning etc etc, I highly recommend upgrading to a quality airbrush after some time.

Second thing is nozzle sizes. You're new to this, you don't want a 0.1 or 0.15mm nozzle, really. It is likely to block a lot if you're not careful. I'd recommend a 0.2-0.3 nozzle if you want to be able to do reasonable details.

Third isn't even a choice really... You need a dual action airbrush xD

Point four is whether you want siphon fed or gravity fed airbrushes. Siphons need more paint to work, and waste more imho. I'd highly recommend gravity fed as they're easier to keep clean and are also less bulky

Finally; experiment with thinning and airpressures. Find out what works for you. Find out what thinning fluids and pressures the pro's use, try it out, see what fits your style

Airbrush help

I believe the brush to be a generic import, it has no name or anything attached to it, I believe it may be something to do with the diameter of the pin? The compressor can go to any psi but I've been turning it up to enable the paint to come out.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
@ requiem thanks for the info, this will give me a much clearer idea of what to buy

As stated....

Lower pressure gives you a lot more control, but requires better quality paint.

Experiment a lot, and see if anyone in your area has a brush or some paints for you to try.

best of luck!

Airbrush help

After every use I pull the needle and clean it between paints, I also use Vallejo Airbrush Cleaner between colors and after use.

I would recommend full disassemble when your done with the airbrush for the evening and give cleaning. I will put the cleaner on a q-tip and go over the airbrush inside and out.

Once clean I'll put it back together but leave the needle out till I'm ready to use it again.
