500 Point Dark Eldar (new-ish player)

Hi there. I'm posting this in the hopes of getting an idea as to whether this would be a viable starting army. I got into 40k about three years ago, but due to certain circumstances didn't have the chance to get even a basic army going, or play the game. A few weeks ago I went out and bought the 6th edition rulebook, and picked DE as my new army (went with the rule of cool for this, starting out in 5th I took too much account of playstyle and as such never really settled on an army). Anyways, please tell me what you think, and don't be afraid to tell me it's utter crap, as I'd rather hear this now than after I get the models built and painted.

HQ:

(85) Archon; Blaster, Ghostplate armour

Troops:

(156) 9 Kabalites; Raider; Disintegrator cannon, Splinter racks, Shock Prow
(170) 10 Kabalites; Splinter cannon; Raider; Disintegrator cannon, Splinter racks

Fast Attack:

(88) 3 Reavers; Heat lance, Grav-talon

Total: 499

Thanks for reading.

Well, for 500 points it is not bad.

You need all the dark lances you can field, so keep the lances on your raider.

A cheap con for a BS7 blaster is viable, but I would take a second blaster in the kabbie squad to double tap.
Drop the shock prow from the raider, should never need it.

Grav talon is garbage, go with caltrops if you can find the points, or just put the points towards a blaster.

Shock prow can be useful if you don't mind sacrificing the Raider. I've played against a "Raider Missile" list and it can cause havoc against a mech army.

If you follow Serling's tips on what to drop you can find the points for a Shadowfield on the Archon, Shadowfields win games.

Based on you suggestions Dr. Serling, I made these changes to the list.

HQ:

(75) Archon; Blaster

Troops:

(166) 9 Kabalites; Blaster
Raider; Splinter racks

(160) 10 Kabalites
Raider; Splinter racks

Fast Attack:

(98) 3 Reavers; Heat lance, Cluster caltrops

Total: 499

I knew that caltrops were better, but I managed to get bladevanes and the grav-talon confused, and thought that I needed the grav-talon in order have the effect that bladevanes have.

I would drop the cluster claptraps from the reavers and the blaster from the kabal squad, then use the points to give the archon a shadowfield and a venom blade.

Looks good. A shadowfield IS a good upgrade, and at higher point levels certainly something to look into. I think you don't need it at 500 as your con is just there to be accurate with a darklight weapon and fill the mandatory HQ slot. Yeah, a hamey is cheaper but a hamey does not really add anything...

Your con and the kabbies are pretty compromised, and your con should not have much CC duty to do. At 500 points, you rarely see models that need a con to CC down. MC's can be cut apart by darklight and poison fire. Other than the off chance you see someone run mephiston, you should be gravy. Even then, you are fast enough to ignore him.

I would do something like this

Hammie
Liquifier Gun

Wracks x 4
Venom Splinter Cannon

Wracks x 5
Liquifier Gun
Venom Splinter Cannon

Ravager
Ravager

This hits at 500 points on the nose. You have enough Dark Lance shots to take down any armor. The Hammie rides with the group of 4 Wracks who count as troops with the Hammie. The Liquifier Gun is a great template weapon and will soften up anything before the assault. You are going to loose wracks in overwatch but they should slaughter anything they hit. They 4 man Wrack Squad starts with 2 pain tokens as well so they have furious charge and feel no pain. While the other Wrack Squad has feel no pain from it's pain token. If you can multi assault squads and pick apart opposing lists one piece at a time this list should win.
