I wonder if wytches w/haywire grenades would have helped against the stormlord. Getting them there is the hard part, plus the sheer number of hull points super heavies have. The rules are not designed for it (unfortunately, one may argue). It's practically cheating.

Actually Blessings and Maledictions can be cast. Witchfire can't. Basically any psychic power cast at the start of the movement phase can be cast whilst in combat.
