Primers?

Hi guys,
After playing around with black for a while i made the switch to white and find it so much better to work with, however i want to try a grey primer and was wondering can i just go into a hard ware store like Halfords and get a grey spray from there? I don t have a bank account having spent the last 4 years in south America and therefore cannot buy online yet so has anyone tried this? If anyone has what colour spray did they use and to what results? What can anyone recommend? cheers guys dreadful tom.

Re:Primers?

Funnily enough I got a grey primer today. Due to the terrible weather recently I've not been able to get outside and spray(normally chaos black). I have tried vallejo acrylic black and also grey primers and to be honest they are nowhere near as resiliant as the label claims; they continually rub off. Currently I'm taking a break from minis and have went back to how I first started, making plane kits. The primer problem arose. So today I bought a tin of Humbrol grey primer(no 1) to try it out. It needed some thinners as I found it a bit thick to brush on but so far so good. Tomorrow I'm hoping to start painting over it with acrylic and see how it reacts.
