Ice/snow bases I'm working on.

The snow looks quite good, but I find the bright blue unnatural. I'd try to keep it very subtle (no more than a light wash)... if I included it, at all. Texture, more than color, differentiates ice and snow. If you want something other than clear/white, for the sake of variety, consider the underlying terrain - frozen ground gives you a reason to broaden your palette, instead of forcing colors where none exist.

Granted, alien worlds give you a lot of license to ignore what we consider natural, but for something as familiar as snow and ice, I think "keeping it real" is the way to go, unless you have some compelling fluff that you want to represent, physically. If your chosen planet is made of blue raspberry bubblegum, then you've nailed it!

Re:Ice/snow bases I'm working on.

Yeah, the blue came out very strong in the first ones I did. The next ones are nicer looking. I want it to look like a frozen planet(large bodies of frozen water) with snow on it. These look like a deep lake that is frozen. I use pictures for reference and almost every picture I have found of frozen lakes there is alot of blue in the ice. I don't know how unnatural this is:

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Here is second batch pre-snow

Re:Ice/snow bases I'm working on.

The texture is some plastic with a crystal print on it(I cast up the bases after making the masters). Then I prime them white and wash them a light blue. I then use woodland scenics water effects to it. The snow is woodland scenics water effects mixed with their snow flock.

Ice/snow bases I'm working on.

I did my snow in some other interesting way:
i have no idea what it is, but it's some type of finely crushed white rock.

What i do is mix dark brown paint with white glue, add a small dab of water, and apply to the base, then sprinkle this almost dust-like crushed rock on top. The "snow" soaks into the glue, and soaks the color up just a bit, so what it ends up looking like is a muddy battlefield with a fresh coating of snow.
If i had a decent camera, and models that didn't look hideously painted, I'd try and get the photos up for comparison. (and to be told what the hell I'm putting on my base, so i can maybe get more of it)
