The Historical Inspirations Behind Armies in Different Games

What are the historical connections behind armies in the different games that you think most player miss out on?

The Empire from Warhammer is obviously based on the Incas. Both are empires with armies made up of a core of halberders, mostly wear cloth armor, wear big feathers, like bright colors, have a large bureaucracy, and have a mastery over stonework.

Space Marines from 40k are Samurai. They have back banners, honor, prefer melee despite their good shooting ability, and have a divine emperor.

The Legion of Everblight from Warmachine seem to be based off Finland. Like Finns they have militarized reindeer, live in the cold, and are crazy-scary in and adorable way.

So what obvious inspirations are their for your favorite armies? (Try to do other games too, like Infinity)

^This, lol. I think Imperial Guard are more like the romans and chaos undivided are like christian armies during the middle ages.

The roman were highly militaristic, extremely mobile, and flexible, but even with troops numbering in the hundreds of thousands, are constantly stretched thin by all the territory they have to protect. The christian armies are fanatical and will go to all lengths to protect their god, they care little for anyone else and declare all other beliefs to be false. They are more than willing to shed blood and they let the known world burn.
