Daemons... Codex or iCodex?

Hello!

I've been meaning to build a Daemon army for a while now, but haven't got further than buying kits. I have a lot of stuff to build, and the new Codex release is a perfect push to get me started.

I have an iPad. It's awesome (sorry, haters). The new Codex is available in both hardback and iBook form. Which should I get?

A few facts about my gaming:

1) I only play at home / a close friend's house.
2) I use my iPad a lot for 40k at the moment (Army List pdfs etc)
3) My other two armies are Vanilla Marines and Necrons. I have hardcopy Codices for both, but have been tempted to go digital a number of times, only holding back because it was duplication of resources.

I'm looking for info on the iCodex's ease of use. I find loading times for larger multi-page PDFs a right pain in the backside, but I like the idea of polished interactive content. I'm pretty sure I don't want both. However, I'm also happy to buy iCodices for my marines and necrons if the experience is worth it. And yes, I love it that all my armies have this option already

Any opinions appreciated. Unless you're of the "I'd go with the hardback because OMG APPLE SUX BALLZ" camp, of course. Those guys need a lie down and a biscuit.

Cheers!

Craig

If you are only going to go with one, I would suggest the hard copy. While yes it would be awesome for all the errata to be updated into the book, you never know what could happen. Lets say you drop and damage your iPad, well then you wont have the codex. Or if you forget to charge it and decide to play a game, your battery could die in the middle of the game.

While yes I do plan on getting all the codicies in digital format when I get an iPad, I still want to have hard copies just in case. Not to mention haveing a bookshelf thats full is always a nice decoration for a room, and a potential conversation starter with guests.

I agree, go with the hard copy. When you buy a book, you get a book. When you rent a non-ownership licence to content that can only be used at someone else's discretion, who knows what you're getting into.

Plus, you're more likely to lose, damage, run out of juice, etc. your tablet than a book that you always keep with your 40k stuff.

I actually think the new army books are brilliant and I'm tempted to buy any of them that come out simply becuase they look awesome...unfortunately, money prevents me from doing so

So it's a personal thing but I'd go with the book. There's a comforting certainty to knowing that it'll always be there, possibly for decades.

Daemons... Codex or iCodex?

If the iPad gets damaged you won't actually lose the codex but you would need a new iOS device to use it again. However, I absolutly hate digital books (I work at a school and prefer physical books 10x over).

Buy the hard copy from your LGS. Support your local stores. You might not play there a lot (if at all) but it helps keep them in business.

Daemons... Codex or iCodex?

for an insight into how easy to use the digital codex's are to use, they are fantastic. whats this weapons stats again, tap the name and there it is, same for special rules etc etc etc its all included so saves running to the BRB for everything. so it can save you lots of time with fiddling about, very easy to navigate etc and pretty damn fast to load. its got a few other shinies that the print copy doesn't get but they are not necessary for gaming. (iv got the CSM codex on the ipad 4 for reference)

but as many others have said. a print copy as a backup at-least in case the said ipad gets FUBAR for any reason. because we all know what apple can be like

the irony here in Aus is that digi codex is 30 bucks cheaper than print copy........ finally something we save on.. just dont tell GW cos that will get changed haha
