Spray paint primer 'shrinkage'

I've had a couple of instances of spray primer 'shrinking' on the model and leaving a rough, pitted looking surface. It's only happened on certain parts of certain models. Other models that I primed at the same time turned out fine. So far the only thing I can think of is that every time it's happened it was a reasonably hot day. I did some Tacticals last night with zero problems; the temperature was much cooler today.

Would this be the cause or is there something I am doing wrong in preparation? The models were the plastic Ravenwing and Chosen from Dark Vengeance and it happened to the bike with the Plasma Gun and one of the Chosen.

Could be a few things--- release left on the models from the molding process, primer drying too fast, or possibly too much paint all together.
