I've played the board game maybe once before. I've always wanted to start painting and modeling, and i recently have the means to afford it, and think it would be a lot of fun. (playing too, once i get experience making models)

I'm sure this knowledge is commonplace to most of you, but i've heard (as a lot of products direct from GW are) that GW's modeling supplies (some of them) are a tad overpriced, and some innefective. Can anyone give me a good list of things i would need, or some specific product recommendations?

I probably would play IG or Chaos, mostly infantry based armies.

So I'm not sure how quality they are. They have modelling stuff too, but I haven't tried it myself.

What you would probably need:

Brushes
Plastic glue(Of course, for plastic)
Super Glue(For Finecast or metal, but now of days it's mostly for the former)
Some kind of Primer(Be careful not to spray too much onto your models, I ruined some wraithguard that way -_-)
An exacto blade or hobby knife(to cut off mold lines and flash)
Pliers(The easiest way to take parts off the sprue, unless someone has another way of doing it)

Can't think of anything else. And just a tip, I've heard from more than one forum that washing your sprues(or parts from sprue), need to be washed in warm soapy water before hand, some chemical agent in the molding process can really mess up your painting .

That's with resin, not with plastic, as far as I know. I myself use a file to get those mold lines away.

Hey i appreciate that a lot, i'll hit you up if i go IG, i think im leaning towards chaos, or towards converting IG (and playing with IG rules) into a Traitor guard regiment, that sounds pretty fun.

Wargames factory greatcoat shock troopers are ridiculously cheap (18 for $20) I use them as platoons in my imperial guard. Ebay is a great source for cheap gw models. THAT is exactly the type of thing i would love to start with. Cheap models that i can experiment colors and technique on. The pinesol tip is a good one, i'de rather not buy models every time i feth up. I'm going to check those out now and probably order a batch.
