				<title>Starting a Warriors of Chaos army</title>
				<description><![CDATA[ Hey there everyone!<br /> <br /> Ok so I used to be very into the hobby, had a bit of a hiatus for a few years and now want to get back into it, speciffically with <span class="glossaryitem" onmouseover='gp(385);'>WoC</span>.<br /> <br /> Whats the cheapest and best way to get an army started? <br /> Currently I was thinking of buying two battalion boxes, and the plastic sorcerer and lord. <br /> As I'm in Australia, things arent as cheap as I'd hope, so if you can suggest specific sites/stores that would be even better!<br /> <br /> <span class="glossaryitem" onmouseover='gp(442);'>PS</span> I also need to buy a hobby starter set or something similar, as i need to get the paints, tools and basing materials, so suggestions on that would be awesome!<br /> <br /> thanks guys I really appreciate the advice!<br /> <br /> ]]></description>

				<description><![CDATA[ Hey man, I'm living in Aus too and I've recently started using Dice Bucket  <a href="http://www.dicebucket.com/servlet/StoreFront" target="_new" rel="nofollow">http://www.dicebucket.com/servlet/StoreFront</a> to get Warhammer on the 'cheap'. Only bought a couple of things and that was for <span class="glossaryitem" onmouseover='gp(3);'>40k</span>, but I've got no complaints.<br /> <br /> Can't really help you on purchases 'cause I'm kinda new to Fantasy myself, and don't have the new book cause I only bought the old one like 6 months ago. Sigh. But I do know people are hating on marauders (personally I just hate em cause they're butt ugly) so I don't know if the battalions are the greatest bang for your buck. Warriors are the shizz, naturally, as are sorcerers I believe. I also love knights, but I think people are running chariots these days...<br /> <br /> I hope this helped, and someone with a little more knowledge can come and straighten things out  <img src="/s/i/a/c944477abc92c1c101da485e07ff06d8.gif" border="0"> ]]></description>

And yeah alot of the old pdf's are on scribd, but I think <span class="glossaryitem" onmouseover='gp(50);'>GW</span> has caught on and really started cracking down on that. Though if you do find a copy pm me the link ay  <img src="/s/i/a/6d3c0a908a3861135dfaebde91c0ecf6.gif" border="0"> <br /> <br /> I think with <span class="glossaryitem" onmouseover='gp(385);'>WoC</span> you can really afford to go out and buy what you like, because most of our units are dead hard anyway. A core of warriors/charoits/marauders (whatever you like most), sorcerer and hero with your battle standard,  and pretty much splurge on whatever else seems cool to you. I've heard those Razorgore chariot-things are beastly, so I might get some of those eventually. But its all up to taste]]></description>

				<description><![CDATA[ The Hellcannon is more reliable than you make it out to be, Laughing Man - it's not very likely it's going to charge an enemy and you can get around this limitation by smart deploying. It's a staple though for the exact reasons you posted!]]></description>

				<description><![CDATA[ Wood Elves will have a field day with a Marauder heavy army. The excel at low S shooting as most of their shooting is S3 or, if close enough, S4. Your Marauders have zero protection against ranged attacks and will die in droves. You could give them a 5+, but that comes at the cost of being no real threat in combat. Unless your opponent screws up, you're going to have a bad time <img src="/s/i/a/c944477abc92c1c101da485e07ff06d8.gif" border="0"><br /> <br /> What points level are we talking about?]]></description>

				<description><![CDATA[ Nah, keep them. You seem to have made a good deal and they are still usuable - just too pricey to be competitive now. But since you're new to the hobby, that's not an issue for you anyway <img src="/s/i/a/6d3c0a908a3861135dfaebde91c0ecf6.gif" border="0"><br /> <br /> A sorcerer is a staple in every army. Take him. Every time.<br /> <br /> Chaos Warriors are a good unit. Pricey ,but effective. Either Khorne with Halberds or Tzeentch with hand weapon + shield, 6 wide.<br /> <br /> The new elite cavallery is another good idea to get. They are very strong and resilient.<br /> <br /> Hell cannons are a must-take. At least 1, but 2 are better. ]]></description>

				<description><![CDATA[ The hellcannon comes in finecast.  That's a different can of worms, but it's not metal.<br /> <br /> Warriors are expensive points-wise, a unit of 10-12 in a small game is pretty solid and will likely be all you can fit in to reach the '3 units minimum' clause in a small (500ish) point game.  You'll want to go bigger in bigger games, 18-20 is fairly standard I think.]]></description>

				<description><![CDATA[ It's very lightweight resin.  When you get a good cast, it's decent stuff.  It's just notorious for having bad casts with bubbles and such.  If you can get a look at it before purchasing you'll be fine, and lately I think there have been less issues than when it first started.]]></description>

				<title>Starting a Warriors of Chaos army</title>
				<description><![CDATA[ Yeah. Finecast is overpriced as hell. Back when I still played <span class="glossaryitem" onmouseover='gp(385);'>WoC</span>, I converted a pyrovore into a hellcannon. Modelled a cannon barrel made of intertwined tentacles to expand the pyrovore's cannon and replaced the head with a Demon Prince one. For Chaos Dwarves, I used the beginner's set dwarfes, cut off their heads and replaced them with spare Chaos Warrior heads. To finish it up, I gave each of the three dwarfs a handle with a chain that's attached to the Hellcannon to model it being held back by its handlers.<br /> <br /> Price: 25-30€, took me about 3-4 hours (not counting drying processes in).]]></description>

				<description><![CDATA[ Oh, if he doesn't get too many archers, Marauders are fine. They suck vs. armies that can amass low S shooting but as he isn't going to get a lot of it, you're fine.<br /> <br /> Marauders vs. Lizardmen is another meta issue. If he has a few skink units, don't bother, they'll rid you with tousands of needles and with no armor, they hurt.<br /> <br /> Vs. Lizardmen, I'd think about going Nurgle. Since they are dumb, they only hit at WS3 and if you go Nurgle, they will only be able to hit you on 5s, which is a good boost to survivability.<br /> <br /> If he only goes Saurus Warrior heavy, a bigger unit of Marauders with <span class="glossaryitem" onmouseover='gp(50);'>GW</span> and Nurgle might even work. You'll hit at the same time and with you hitting on 3s and wounding on 3s, you'll cause a lot of pain, and their armor save gets reduced to a 6+ too. Furthermore, they only hit on 5s with Nurgle and you get a good buff to your Marauders survivability.<br /> <br /> Got any idea what kind of army you'll likely face? ]]></description>

				<description><![CDATA[ About Marauders: I appear to be trashtalking them a LOT. That's not because they are bad, they are good units and certainly viable. They just aren't competitive anymore because they now cost almost double the price they used to. They are about 2 <span class="glossaryitem" onmouseover='gp(675);'>ppm</span> (points per model) too expensive for what they bring.<br /> <br /> You already got a few Marauders and that's fine, I would just not buy any more. You could also convert a few Marauders into Forsaken, they are fun to play too and converting is easy to do (e.g. remove an arm and replace it with a tentacle etc.).<br /> <br /> You will want to look into some skullcrushers now, they are awesome. But I, personally, wouldn't field them at below 1k. ]]></description>

Sure, they're overpriced, but you will not playing at a high competitive level anytime soon, so that doesn't matter. They still are very good in normal games.<br /> <br /> See, a they are about 2 points too expensive and in an average unit of 30 Marauders, that'd be 60 points you overpay. Competitive-wise, that certainly matters, but in normal games, what is 60 of 1000 points?<br /> <br /> Don't make any decisions before you actually played them <img src="/s/i/a/6d3c0a908a3861135dfaebde91c0ecf6.gif" border="0"><br /> <br /> And: vs. Lizardmen and Wood Elves with a lot amount of shooting, they are cool. They can be used as redirectors aka place them in front of your troops and let your enemy attack them, run choose to flee and force your enemy to stumble forwards, right in your very own charge range so that you can charge the enemy. Or use them to lock war machines. Or block flanking units. They are awesome as they are very cheap. Do not buy any upgrades for them, keep them cheap.<br /> <br /> Chaos Knights...I still think they're too expensive. Sure, they are rock hard with a 2+, but if I want fast crushing power, I'd much rather take some Skullcrushers. You can take both though as they are different slots. <br /> <br /> My recommendation: see if you can get a bataillon for cheap. Got everything you need. Marauders can be converted to Forsaken ;D<br /> <br /> ]]></description>

This uses up all his point allotments and is pretty solid <span class="glossaryitem" onmouseover='gp(72);'>IMO</span>.  Especially if you give him Lore of Metal.]]></description>

It's a lot of damage, and Glean is nice, Treason has some uses, but giving regen all around... guh.  I just can't get over that.<br /> <br /> Lore of Metal feels amazing so far, though.  +1 to hit on units that are dealing massive amounts of pain (i.e., your entire army) is fantastic.  -1 <span class="glossaryitem" onmouseover='gp(149);'>WS</span> hex to bring WS3 to 2 makes them hit your core on 5s, or makes WS5 mirrors let you hit them on 3s.  5+ scaly skin stacks with armor, making your sword and board core 1+ armor.  Final transmutation is great.  See that 2+ armor <span class="glossaryitem" onmouseover='gp(174);'>BSB</span> bunkered up?  Golden hounds nom nom nom.<br /> <br /> Seriously, just imagine for a moment 24 S5 halberd swings hitting on 2s.  You can do that pretty easily with Lore of Metal against most troops.  Even if the enemy has no armor, there are useful spells.  I'm running my level 2 sorc as I described and using that lore.]]></description>

You have 1 spell that's good against any unit to soften it up and possibly cause some leadership shenanigans and can bypass armor/ward saves on a character (final trans).  Then you have a hex that reduces <span class="glossaryitem" onmouseover='gp(149);'>WS</span>/<span class="glossaryitem" onmouseover='gp(14);'>BS</span>/Armor, another hex that reduces armor, a 5+ scaly skin buff, and a +1 and magic attacks buff.<br /> <br /> Two hexes, two augments, all of which are fantastic for <span class="glossaryitem" onmouseover='gp(385);'>WoC</span> given their specific stats (WS3 vs WS5 hits on 4s, hex makes it 5s, or even 6s for nurgle... +1 to hit when already hitting on 3s against most things means hitting on 2s with devastating attacks... 3+ armor on core to 1+, or even 4+ halberds go to 2+).<br /> <br /> So yes, for <span class="glossaryitem" onmouseover='gp(385);'>WoC</span> it's a fantastic trove of hexes/augments.  You could get 3+ armor marauders.  Warhounds would be less appealing, as the 'big' version of that spell casts in a 12" radius on all friendly targets (and likely the hounds are out of the way), and a 5+ armor is probably not going to make much of a difference except against very low strength attacks.  3+ armor starts to actually be annoying.  Still wouldn't take marauders for that purpose, as you have to get that spell and I'd rather just have 1+/5++ tzeentch warriors that's still about 2/3 the block size.]]></description>

				<description><![CDATA[ First off it's not a legal list, as you have too many points invested in your Hero slot.  If you're going for a 1k army, you can only have 250 points total in heros.<br /> <br /> You also can't have multiple Banner of Swiftness.  Only one of the same item/gift per army.<br /> <br /> Smaller note, you probably want halberds instead of additional hand weapons.  +1S is better than +1A in any situation I can think of, especially when you're putting out a ton of attacks already.<br /> <br /> Your sorceror is also out on his own and can't join the <span class="glossaryitem" onmouseover='gp(99);'>MoK</span> warriors.  If you're willing to get risky like this, you should probably give him a Charmed Shield or an Enchanted Shield to make him a little more survivable on top of the 3+ ward.  Just in case.  Plus they're cheap and you can fit it into his item allotment.<br /> <br /> Final point, you might want to edit out point costs aside from totals for the unit.  Lawyers get a little touchy when exact rules are reprinted, including point costs, so it's best to be on the safe side for that and just not include individual point costs for upgrades and the like.]]></description>

				<description><![CDATA[ 1. They do not.  You can order conversions from <span class="glossaryitem" onmouseover='gp(50);'>GW</span>, but I don't think anyone's going to fault you for just modeling AHW and saying "They have halberds."  If it doesn't feel right to you, AHW isn't bad.  It's just not quite as good.<br /> <br /> 2. If you're going up to 1500, you can stick him on a disk.  If you don't want to do that (due to lack of model as you mentioned), you should stick him in a bunker of some sort.  A unit of Tzeentch warriors is kind of pricy, but your sorceror isn't bad in combat and as long as you avoid nasty challenges he should be safe.  That unit can also make a great anvil.  I ran a 1000 point army that had a unit of Tzeentch warriors with shields, a unit of Khorne warriors with halberds, and some knights, and stuck the sorceror with the <span class="glossaryitem" onmouseover='gp(102);'>MoT</span> warriors.  Worked pretty well.  Make sure to get a champion to accept bad challenges.<br /> <br /> 3. Since you don't have a <span class="glossaryitem" onmouseover='gp(174);'>BSB</span> and frenzy can send units running off where you don't want them to go, try Gleaming Pennant.  It will let you reroll a leadership test that might have put you in a bad spot, and it's really cheap.  Great <span class="glossaryitem" onmouseover='gp(174);'>BSB</span> bandaid.<br /> <br /> 4. Something with high strength hits, and some mobility.  I'm not a fan of kitting out the dogs quite that much, but I wouldn't say you shouldn't try it.  Just don't expect them to do much.  I'd recommend trying knights, skullcrushers, maybe a chimera.  Also note that at 1500 points you can get a lord in there.  A Daemon Prince is friggin' brutal at that range.]]></description>

				<description><![CDATA[ I like the idea of the halberds, but im not sure about buying extra bits. im sure my friends wouldnt mind and i wouldnt mind too muhc, but i would prefer to get the bits if i can cheaply.<br /> <br /> I like the idea of the khorne with halberds and tzeentch with sheilds, then sticking the sorcerer with them. <br /> <br /> So im guessing the gleaming pennant is better with the khorne warriors and i could use the swiftness with the tzeentch ones?<br /> <br /> Seeing as it makes no difference to the actual model, ill just see what works.<br /> Skullcrushers look very cool as do knights. 				<description><![CDATA[ Nope, you can get a lord just fine.  You just can't spend more than 25% of your points on one, so at lower points you either get a useless barebones lord or can't afford one at all.  At 1500 you can get a decent Prince out, since you'd have 375 points to work with.  You might even be able to upgrade your sorceror to a lord instead, but you probably won't get the same protection.<br /> <br /> Knights vs Skullcrushers... Skullcrushers tend to be better for hitty power.  They hit like a truck carrying also trucks.  Knights with <span class="glossaryitem" onmouseover='gp(99);'>MoK</span> can do similar things for nearish point value, but Skullcrushers are just better in comparison.  The catch is they take Rare points, while <span class="glossaryitem" onmouseover='gp(99);'>MoK</span> knights are just Special.  Knights with <span class="glossaryitem" onmouseover='gp(100);'>MoN</span> can be disgustingly hard to kill in close combat.  <span class="glossaryitem" onmouseover='gp(102);'>MoT</span> knights can take the banner that essentially nullifies a lot of shooting against them.  Basically, it depends on what you're looking for.  If you want some real killing power, <span class="glossaryitem" onmouseover='gp(99);'>MoK</span> knights or Skullcrushers, preferably Skullcrushers if you can spare the rare points.<br /> <br /> You might also want to look at a Hellcannon to give you some ranged power.<br /> <br /> For banners, if you really want a magic banner on the Tzeentch block, I'd go with the Discipline banner instead.  Your sorceror is the same leadership, so you don't really care about the 'drawback', and it makes it less likely that your very important bunker and your general aren't going to suddenly book it if they lose a battle from a flank charge or the like.<br /> <br /> <br /> <span style="font-size: 9px; line-height: normal;">Automatically Appended Next Post:</span><br /> I checked out the sorc lord, for 375 points you can get:<br /> <br /> Sorceror Lord<br />  - Mark of Tzeentch<br />  - Level 4 upgrade<br />  - Talisman of Preservation<br />  - Chaos Familiar<br />  - Third Eye of Tzeentch<br />  - Enchanted Shield<br /> <br /> And still have 5 points left over.  So you'd have 5 of the 6 Lore of Metal spells and likely be able to pick and choose a bit depending on what you're facing, and you'd also get the reroll ward saves of 1 perk.  It'd be better still if he was on a disk, but that's not an option and it would go over point value anyway at that point.]]></description>
