Gloss - does it make models "shiny"?

I was thinking about doing some conversion/sculpting and wanted to try and make some parts to be "shiny" - like blood, ooze, slime etc. I never actually used gloss before (im talking the citadel gloss) - would it make the parts "shiny"? If not, anything else i could use for same effect?

You can do similar for puss and ooze using yellow and green. I add some bulk to mine with Vallejo heavy gel.

Get yourself to a real art store...tell them you want to know about sheens.

After that, ask to see their acrylic mediums. They will have a bunch which range from water consistancy, through snot all the way up to spackle. Some will be just shiney pure acrylic, others will have stuff added to them like pumice or sand for texture.

All of that said, gloss is shiney. Tamiya clear paints are great for blood and what not. You can get clear glosses (Future a popular choice) and add you own color with paints, inks or dyes as well if you need a specific color.

Gloss - does it make models "shiny"?

I was about to suggest something... and then the expert comments came in and I got embarrassed about my amateur ideas......

I just use a regular glossy wood varnish on parts I want to see shine out. I literally use a drop of it as it is thick and super glossy - and only on selected areas...

..........

If its just for a simple shine, I find the old inks to be nice, particularly red ink if you can get your hands on it or equivalent!

I water it down a good bit though cause its too shiny straight from the pot imo.
