Tips on technicues for painting Eldar?

I was thinking of getting in to Eldar, but then I realized I'm not very good at painting, so I thought I'd ask:
How to paint Eldar in a way that looks good yet isn't too difficult? I don't quite fancy the look of the 'major craftworlsd', so I though I'd try something more personal... Like using purple as a main paint and then use orange (and/or other bright colours) for details.

Thank you in advance!

Hey! I was just lurking around and found this post.

I have the same problem: how to paint Eldar? It would be outstanding to do something different from the traditional happy rainbow warhost. Some ideas could be to inspire from those tiny decorative drawings in the new Codex, where armour and weapons have an aged look; not worn off, just aged. Or you could also have a look at some insect shells, although I have no idea how to replicate their shine.
https://www.google.es/search?q=escarabajo&safe=off&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ei=3LFTUv-uJbCh7Aa8m4DADw&ved=0CAcQ_AUoAQ&biw=1280&bih=709&dpr=1#facrc=_&imgdii=_&imgrc=mwXDtkz1xVDQFM%3A%3BV4uv3iByd22uSM%3Bhttp%253A%252F%252Fmilan2.es%252FAlex_85%252FFotosAlex%252FEscarabajoCaminata.jpg%3Bhttp%253A%252F%252Fmilan2.es%252FAlex_85%252FAlex_Bichos.html%3B400%3B300

Whatever you come out with, you've chosen the most difficult army to paint Good luck!
